You really think I care what someone wastes their money on? I was just making my point about the best options economically. Sorry you can't have a debate without being emotionally involved.

I'd hate to see what you would do if you did. I must be confused by the 40 posts in this thread you have on the matter.

The point is China could spend one bazillion dollars and still not be close to other countries. Seriously, they have real problems in this area. Sometimes the way an article or talking point is framed only tells part of the story.

For example, let's say China spends 5X more than another country. Well, if they are 20X dirtier that really is pissing in the wind so to speak. When I was over there a few months ago I was wearing one of those masks too. Everyone was because you can't really breathe without them. It's bad.

and my doctor tells me my severe allergies are "normal" although we are so close to the mountains here but you can't see them due to the extremely dull air pollution

Yes , China is a major polluter and GHG emitter , I never said they weren't , plus I never said they have already solved those issues , I merely stated a fact that they are making huge investments in moving to renewables and away from "beautiful clean coal'

Can I make that more clear ?

It probably has something to do with them providing 90% of the world's supply of elements necessary to build motors, generators, solar panels but being a net importer of coal (where the U.S. happens to send 25% of our coal export). We import 80% of our lithium from China, 100% of rare earths because we deemed these industries too toxic to do ourselves. There's geo-politics and supply of strategic resources involved here. If the world embraces alternative fuels China is positioned to corner the market while the rest of the world is caught flat.

Also, currently China imports almost as much oil as the U.S. We import between 9 and 10 million barrel/day and China about 8 million barrel per day. Their demands is growing while ours has been steady in the 5 to 10 million range for 25 years, peaking in about 2004-2005 and has been going down the past decade. China's economy is creating drivers at a huge rate and they are facing a real crude supply issue before long, so they have no choice but to try and put all these new middle class owners into hybrid and EVs.

I think in 20 years pure electrics will be ~50% in urban centers, much less elsewhere.

This is ostensively about Tesla but a larger statement on what defines 'value' to Wall St now. It seems like quantifiable metrics aren't important as long as you have a vague-but-buzzworthy vision.

Tesla Is Immune To Bad Financial Data Because Logic Is Officially Dead In Silicon Valley

BTW, the blog mentions how solar panels are a major problem for Tesla. In case you're not aware Tesla bought Solar City, which is losing value fast and sucked out lots of cash that the Model 3 production ramp up is supposed to cover.

I don't understand anyone not believing that the world is going electric. Literally every developed country on the globe is moving to renewables, and cracking down on emissions. With options like solar rapidly decreasing in cost, and battery technologies rapidly improving, how you or anyone else can say "gas isn't going anywhere" blows my fucking mind.

Governments don't need to force anyone to adopt these technologies, people are happy to make the switch on their own as soon as they viably can.

This doesn't take into account the people who have gone completely solar, and are able to recharge their vehicles for next to nothing. Many people are able to run their prius' solely on electric and get FAR better than the rated mpg's as their daily commutes may not require to even run the gas engine.

I'm no tree hugger, and I don't have an electric car, solar panels, or anything of the sort. I drive a gas guzzling Taco like the rest of you, but if you really think that in 10-15 years, we'll all still be driving ICE's , you're delusional.

the point is that all these granola social warriors do is concentrate on how they can enforce and create laws harming and costing(AKA forced and mandatory requirements to drive only Electric/Hybrid vehicles whether you like it or not) the little guy who drives a Tacoma who is already over regulated as it is by environmental laws instead of having the courage to address and punish the chief culprits in the Global warming pollution issue who do not obide in any rules pertaining to keeping the air clean, China,India the airline industry. there it is Girl friend

But, it also can't be 100% EV in that time frame either. It's simply impossible. The reality will be in the middle somewhere. You can't go from 1% share to 100% share in 10 years.

What will happen in 10 years will be most new models will be offered with Gasoline, hybrid and EV options. Pure EV share won't be even close to half in 10 years. It is coming just like self driving cars. But it will take more than 1 decade.

We should make a global agreement to address it and get all the major polluters to sign on
