I love the cement color of the 3rd gen.

It's been out for a little while prior on the Corolla I believe.

Yeah, I bought a 92 and then found my 02 and sold it back to the guy. I just didn't want a 25 year old truck...though it was in good shape. Couldn't get it to pass emissions though.

Head gasket took my 91, that put me in a 99 then when the wife got pregnant again, needed a back seat so I got the 04.

I don't like the 3rd gens, my 3rz has more power than the 3.5 till about 3500 rpms when the power actually kicks in.

To much electric crap....add with 40k for a mid size and that thing isn't leaving the pavement if I had it

1st gen size is perfect, when it's actually a tacoma in my opinion

My 04 was 30k, my 16 OR DCLB was 36.5k, this 03 AC brand new is about the same price when you adjust for inflation.

This is where the dealbreaker is for me, too. I don't mind the 'electric crap', as long as I can keep a manual trans. And like others have stated, when adjusted for inflation, the price of these trucks hasn't gone up that much. But the size kills me every time. If I wanted a full-size, I'd go buy a full size. 3rd gens are about the same size of the 1st gen Tundra.

Just wish I could buy a 2017 Tacoma with 1st gen feel. They did it for the GT86, I think they could do it for the Tacoma.

FYI that $25, 800 MSRP on the 03 AC Offroad I posted comes out to $33,650 in 2016, $34,323 in 2017 so the trucks haven't increased much in price at all.

For what you're getting with the bigger truck and technology you're getting a hell of a deal in reality.

Curious to see how big the new Jeep truck will be, should be available in a manual but will probably be over $40k.

If it's the size of a 4-door wrangler but with a bed in the back, that might be ok. I know it's just an 'artists rendering' but this with a slightly longer bed would be great.

Also, I agree with you as far as money goes. I just don't want/need a big truck. If I was doing construction or hauling, sure. But I use my truck for winter/weather DD, snowboarding/mtb/camping, DIY projects etc. I use my bed all of the time, but I only occasionally use all of it.

I'm the same way, I love the size of the 1st gen. Unfortunately, I'm 6' 1", my wife is 5' 10", and my kids are all 80th percentile or higher in height for their age. We all fit in the 1st gen DC right now, but when the kids all start hitting their growth spurts in a couple of years, that isn't going to last. :(

It's nice to haul bikes without having to pull the toolbox out or drop the tailgate, with the 3rd gen I can also get 3 bikes across.

With the longbed I can sleep in the 6ft bed camping.

I get better gas mileage and more range with the bigger truck as a DD and winter transport. It goes pretty much all the same places my 04 does unless I purposely try to get into a tighter space.

But the 1st gen can feel like a fun little run about after rolling in the dirt limo for a time.

For a daily truck with 2 or more people and gear, the 16 trumps the 04 by a wide margin.

I'll have to disagree just slightly, and bump that number up to 3 people. For two people, my 98 Xtra cab has been great (And my Ranger extracab before that). I guess if I had a DCSB, or a third person, I'd agree with you.
And for bikes, for now I put a pool noodle across the tailgate and put the bikes on it. Eventually I'll buy a pad or go your route with those fork mounts. I have a toolbox but I don't have it on because I prefer a cleaner look for DD. But for a trip, it's nice to lock things up (pump, extra parts, maybe even fold up a bike stand in it).
