Pens D is garbage, both games so far. I'm not going to judge Niemi after 1 game, especially that one. Murray struggled a bit in both games now too, and it's more the play in front of them. If it doesn't work out with Niemi, then I'm not too worried about it. Like I said, it was cheap insurance to let Jarry develop 1 more year anyways.

He looked really solid for Team Canada at the worlds and he was decent behind the worst team in the league last year. I'd be surprised if he clears waivers, if I was the Pens I'd take him over Niemi and hope he pushes Murray a bit since Murray seems to take that well.

 

Pickard cleared. I guess the league is happy with its backup situation right now.

 

Ya I wouldn't be opposed to it. He seems solid and like you said, he did a pretty good job on a team that was mentally checked out by mid-season, last year lol. I know Rutherford wanted 1 veteran guy in the mix, with our 2 young guys. Not sure if 3 young guys would be a concern for him, but I think sometimes the veteran presence is overrated (especially if the young guys are proving that they can play). I guess we will see. I'd be ok with it.

Back to the original reason for his release, what exactly does Vegas see in M Subban that would make them grab him and drop Pickard? I thought that was odd. Subban seems like a bit of a bust.
