pics of low profile toolboxes in prerunner dc sb's

Hello,

I'm looking for pics and information for a low profile toolbox for the prerunner double cab short bed tacoma's. I'm thinking about getting one but want to see how much bed space it takes up and how deep they are. If you have any to post, please let me see your set up! Thanks.

here is the one i had on my 06 prerunner......



i used long self tappers to secure it to the bed, but you can actually use j-hooks and use the rail system for a cleaner look, and its pretty easy to do.

for the double cab......check jhodge83's profile and gallery.....he has a nice box for his dc, and its a slim box too, do you have room in the bed.

Trail Boss brand. It's in a 4x4 and not a Prerunner but that is the same as far as the bed goes.

 

This is from Chris4x4's gallery. Shows how far out it comes which I was mainly interested in when I was looking for a box. Seems to be at about mid-backtire. I think he said he got this one at Home Depot, but Tacomaman's is a Kobalt, which I believe is a Lowe's product (and a mighty fine one).

 

glad i'm not the only one with my box hanging by the edge of the bedcap.


i just wish i could find some slim crate or storage box to slide underneath mine
but nobody makes anything 9 or 10 inches tall


d'yall notice, chrome accessories and boxes work with the silver trucks..and maybe red or maroon or blue...
but for anything else, nothing beats black?

 

are any of these boxes weatherproof?

 

by design i think they all claim to be.
anything with a downward lip and a ring of foam or rubber along the edge of the inside is considered weatherproof.

depends on how many mounting holes you drill in 'em,..
and maybe freezing/thawing temperatures could effect things.

Your truck is awesome! Nice look, mine is silver too so I was on the fence about black or silver and this black looks tough in that bed. I see it's a shallow box, do you find it keeps enough of your tools in place and with enough space? Lastly, did you get it from home depot? And if so how much? Thanks again!

Hey Guys!

Is the single lid a pain to use? I've never had a tool box before, always just locked up my ReTrax, but I would imagine having to get in the bed ever time to access tools could be a pain, I'm a handy man so I would use the box often. I like the gull wing models but no one has these in a low profile, unless I'm missing it... Thanks!

actually....i like the single lid alot better than the gull wing type boxes, Rob. you can get to everything alot easier.

 

Let me please clarify what I think I've read, you can open the box from one side? One of the side latches? It also opens the other or do I have to go around to the other side? Sorry, rookie, I know...

for the most part, with a single lid, yes, you can open the box with one of the latches, as long as the latches stay adjusted and lubed properly.

 

Sweet, looks like I'll be going to check out Home Depot for this black tool box, I like the look and the shallow design. Thanks for the help guys!
