    Haha.

Honestly after the regear and my tire size I just "manually" shift it now. Works okay.

Buy the pro and lease the OR, If you can not decide.

What would you rather have in a few years from now a 3rd gen or a 2nd gen? as stated the 2nd gen has had all the bugs worked out, the 3rd gen is still a work in progress. The pro also has nicer wheels.

If you buy the 2nd gen and don't like it you could always get a 3rd gen.

Or you could get the one that costs the least.

I spent the last couple days driving both on a work trip. Going back and forth between my 2017, and my workmates 2015 several times each day I will say this:

2017: hands down better interior, user controls, dash lay-out, and features. Makes the 2015 look very cheap in comparison.

2015: the engine and transmission are more “driveable” (maybe at the cost of fuel efficiency). It pains me to say it, but the 4.0L and the 2nd Gen tranny has more gump off the line and smoother acceleration. No question.

What would I choose? I would go 2017 because the good outweighs the bad. The powertrain isn’t as “inspired”, but the fuel savings are nice, and the 3.5L plant is adequate and reliable (so far). If on-road drivability was the only goal, the 2nd Gen would take it, but for me that’s only part of the package.

I think the PRO is a waste of money.

But I'd take a '15 PRO over a third gen every time.

    I’ve owned a 2006 prerunner and I currently have a 17 TRD Offroad.

2006: engine / tranny was better

2017: everything else is 100x better

I thought the dash layout was about the same, only updated materials in the 3rd gen?

I'm starting to think the 3rd gen was visually changed to smooth over the transition from 4L to 3.5L.

Don’t get me wrong. I like the 3.5L, and it’s worlds beyond the 4-banger 4X4’s I drove in the ‘90s, but in direct comparison to the 4.0L, there is “no replacement for displacement” as they say.

3rd gen beats 2nd in tow gauntlet test by a whopping 45 seconds !
2nd gen is looking long in the tooth, back end looks like an 70's station wagon.
3rd gen has ultra high strength steel (6x stronger) and many other modern improvements over 8 track tape deck in 2nd gen. 2nd gens are rusting out.
    No way would I get a 2nd.

Back end does look like crap in 2nd gens, almost like a Honda ridgeline.:rofl::rofl:
    Rest is looking old also.
Actually ridge looks better than 2nd IMO.

I was in a similar situation . When I went shopping to trade in my 2006 Trd OR , my plan was to look for a 2015 with low mileage.
After looking and test driving them I felt like I was still in my 2006 .
So I decided to try the newer 2016 , as soon as I sat down behind the wheel in the sexy black interior and saw all the high tech my only word was wow! Took it for a test drive and was very impressed and took it home in 2 hours. Before buying it I had not even heard of TW so I went in without reading any post , reviews etc ..
    I’m one happy guy I went 3rd gen vs the 15 !

My only suggestion is try um both and decide for yourself .

    Welcome to Tacoma World !

Get the PRO and use it until the final year of the 3rd Gen. then trade it in for the last 3rd gen PRO.

They actually used the tail lights from a 1976 AMC Matador, but that’s another story.
