No, we must start building a coalition...

    Let's all sing!

We are the (Tacoma)world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
    So lets start giving
    There's a choice we're making
    We're saving our own lives
    It's true we'll make a better day
    Just you and me

Uh, this is America, this shit will eventually get straightened out.

If it was viable they wouldn't have to continual subsidies all this clean energy crap. The market and economy will dictate need, not the government.

Not only that the cheapest and most readily available source of energy in America is Natural Gas, not renewable.

We are not delusional. We do have a grasp on reality. Do me a favor and check how many electric cars were sold this year. 1%. To go from 1 to 100 in ten years? That s a big fat nope. Check solar and renewables too. Still bottom of the barrel. I think it's going to happen bro but it's gonna take awhile longer than 10-15 years unless someone comes up with a Mr. Fusion. What we have now just won't get us there because the sun does not always shine and the wind does not always blow and we don't have enough stuff to make batteries for everything.

The US, China and big business are actively involved in AI research and making progress.

This is really the wild card that will set other technologies in motion.

AI and EV are related, the first leading to exponential growth in the second.

This in not only about Tesla's and windmills....

I can have a debate without being emotionally involved. If this is hard for you to believe then I assume you are projecting.

Those countries are FORCING people to build and buy renewables. It doesn't mean that the market is going towards renewables in a natural way. Like I said, when it is the better option and people FREELY choose to go for those options, let me know.

And I already said that if you charge your electric vehicles from solar panels then it makes sense. And if I own a home in the future, I will seriously consider this option. That's the only way it works financially.

The greenies hate oil so much but they conveniently forget where the plastic for their iPhone and iPad comes from

Or the plastic seat for their bike

Or the plastic insulation for the wiring for their battery powered appliances and toys

Or the lid for their Starbucks cup

Even the saintly Tesla and needs insulated wiring

could we not still have all those things when we aren't driving petrol powered vehicles or is that not black and white enough ?

Excluding what Tesla has recently done to the market, EVs (and Hybrids to a lesser extent) exist almost exclusively because governments are forcing them.

With very few exceptions, EVs would not likely exist in the US without California's zero emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate (and the other 14 "Section 177 States" that follow CA). CA requires manufacturers to sell a certain 'percentage' of ZEVs (it's complicated... in the US, not necessarily in CA for now). Between that, the Federal CAFE rules, and Federal, state, and local utility credits the free market would look very different.

Many EVs that have been sold as CA ZEV "compliance cars" are estimated to sell at a ~$10,000 loss per vehicle. Add in other incentives and buyers are getting many EVs for more than $20,000 below cost.

I am not, in principle, opposed to incentives for important fledgling industries; but, it seems to me that Tesla has done (or will soon) far more to jump-start the EV market than any government.

Nothing definite but at least they are trying something.

Traded a 15 F-150 in for a TRD Off-road and I'll agree that the Start-Stop technology is great, the 2.7 is a phenomenal engine on MPG and acceleration.
Toyota is going this route like Ford did to meet the required mpg by 2024 of overall 54.5.
I'm going to the Ranger in 2020 since I no longer had a need for a full size truck. (Parking Decks and 88 miles a day for work now), I like my Tacoma, but Ford has been very innovative on efficiency.

or Leonardo DiCaprio flying around the world in his private jet dumping tons of hydro carbons into the air while he will tells a guy barely paying his bills we will force you to drive a Hybrid/Electric car by Government mandate so we can save the Planet, and its your fault the air is so polluted for driving a gas powered vehicle. Whats next the Granola Social Warriors will stop building houses made out of wood because they clear cutted all the Old growth forests out of existence in the Pacific Northwest, that will go over well with all the home builders who have to earn a living using wood/timber, now you must use recycled plastic bottles to build homes they do it in Europe and its coming whether you like it or not.

Has been some years, but the last time I looked, solar for our house was $25K with incentives. Electric from the grid is pretty cheap for us. Works out to be $50/month averaged over the year. Would take 41.6 years to pay for those panels to pay for themselves.

Idaho doesn't do too bad with renewable energy. Doesn't make much sense for the home owner to go off-grid here, both financially or for the bleeding hearts.

Yep, the holier-than-thou crowd. I am only interested in EV/Hybrids for better fuel economy....however it won't save me any money, haven't had a vehicle payment in 20 years, doesn't make financial sense to run out and buy a brand new vehicle just because it gets better mileage than what I have now. So what is going to happen to guys like me, vehicles are paid for...are they going to force us to buy EV's in the future?
