The JL's modeled at 400W, the SD at 500W (recommended power). Both are in sealed .5 cube enclosures. Edit: I went back and gave the JL 500W for giggles and they got pretty close. JL says this is too much power, but it's only modeling at 12mm peak excursion for the SD's 15mm.

You will always get more sound out of 2 10s rather than 1 12.

If they're the same sub, yeah. You'll have maybe 700 sq cm of cone area as opposed to maybe 500. But then time alignment won't be as precise and you need twice the airspace and power to really make a difference. I'd personally use a single competent driver any day as opposed to 2 where possible in a SQ build. I'd personally use a single 12 opposed to 2 10s, but that's just me. Not everyone is trying to focus the low end on the windshield with the rest of the stage. If this is all about that bass, then yeah, toss another 10 in there and show it the powa!

So for 2 10" sundowns would the box be bigger like the one in the pic for a single 12"? For 2 10" i would still need to modify the back wall by cutting the restraints?

I don't know what you'd need to cut - I drive a 1st gen. But you'll need 1 cubic foot for the pair of 10s. (interior volume). The 12 I'm hearing works best in about .85 cubes. Don't stuff it with polyfil either. These subs perform best in small enclosures (just not too small :D ). Or do. It'll play a little lower in a larger enclosure, but you have to watch the gain. These subs don't have a bumped back plate and won't take the level of abuse that the rest of Sundown's stuff will. They'll pound all day, but there is a hard physical limit.

These were built with SQ as a priority. Distortion is low all the way through the stroke so it's tempting to keep turning them up. You won't hear much distortion before you introduce the coil former to the backplate unlike most subs. So maybe keep that in mind as you're getting to know them. If it clacks, pull it back! A subsonic filter helps a LOT with this.

I went with a SA-12 on 1200 watts. All brackets had to be removed and fiber glass needed to be used to get depth. The amps are mounted in the storage area and under the seat. The single ported 12 is delivering some serious bass. I spaced the seats with washers to give the sub space.

Is Skar Audio and Sundown about the same as in performance...Skar looks like a great product too.

I'm not sure exactly what it is, but every time I see a discussion about Skar, I also see a discussion about a shady owner without much detail. I do know with Sundown, they stand behind their stuff and actually answer the phone. They also have a 2 year warranty where they pay for return shipping for defective stuff. I'm curious about Skar as well, but after all the 'warnings', I decided not to mess with them personally. They very well could come out of the same build house as Sundown, but haven't heard a single testament to their performance.
