nerf bar recommendation

hello,
01 doublecab here. looking for any recommendation on nerf bars. not much off roading right now. thanks in advance.

 

I put the Westin nerf bars on my double cab eight years ago. They still look good although mild weather where I live.

Welcome in! Just wanted to present another option I found in lieu of nerf bars that serve as sliders as well. My kids had a tough time getting into the truck and got the Demello Rockcrusher Sliders. They have bolt on and weld on options, serves as a great step up and keeps you off the rocks (and shopping cars/car doors wont ding you either )

IMO, don't get anything that's mounted to the cab (oem style running boards/nerf bars) if there is ANY chance you'll go off road with it. I've seen people royally mess up their vehicle hitting their running boards on a rock.

You don't even have to be rock crawling or hard off roading for a rock or a log to flip up and tag you real good. I went wheelin with a friend with a nearly identical truck but he's got factory running boards (I don't have anything, yet). We were seriously on a nearly flat fire road, and I tagged my rocker panel with a log that got flipped up by my wheel, he (luckily) managed to avoid it, but I'm pretty sure if he would have hit it the way I did, it would have caused more damage than what I got - I just dented my rocker panel, he probably would have tore off a chunk of the running board.

For the same price as (or even less than) most running boards, you can get a set of bolt on or weld on rock sliders that work just as well as running boards, but are nearly indestructible if/when you go on the dirt.

Trail gear has a bolt-on rock slider for like $300, and it's frame mounted and will support the weight of the vehicle.

The double cabs and extra-cabs have the same length needed. Usually 78-80" depending on brand.

 

Thanks for all the responses... I saw some nerf bars that had 3 pionts of attachment to car but while driving only. Any recommendations of which specific ones do?

 

Where are you located? I just took mine off. I dont need/want them anymore.

 

I didn't like what bars were offered for my extended cab because they only extended under the driver and passenger door. the look I wanted was full wheel to wheel bars so I order these which were originally for a 2010 tacoma and fabricated my own brackets and bolted straight to the frame.

 

Also, I just spent practically a week shopping for running boards. let me save everyone some time by suggesting you click on the link below. what took me hours with other sites only took a few minutes with these cats. you actually get a live person on the phone and they unlike the others, can tell you the dimensions of each and every running board you choose. no joke !

I'm looking at some on eBay for $120 . It says they're for a 2001-2004 Tacoma but the picture shows a 2005. I've had bad experiences with eBay when ordering auto parts
