If it's 12v you could make a simple voltage divider, but if sinking 2A I'd be careful of heat. Might be easier to bastardized a cig-to-USB adapter and tuck it behind the scenes. At least it'd be less likely to bonfire in the dash and has the benefit of being miniaturized in a PCB. A decent adapter would also have noise suppression, too.

My SR5 doesnt have the built in charger so I bought the samsung one with the fast charge cord and velcrod it in the spot where the charger would be and hid the wire behind console for my S7. Love being able to just toss my phone in there to charge but case has to be thin. no otterbox or anything like that would work.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It all depends on what the voltage of the circuit currently is. Worse case scenario I strip and cig adapter and hide it underneath then buy an aftermarket switch to replace the current one and wire it up to give the adapter 12v when pressed.

Does the new iPhone use qi wireless? Or did Apple come up with some proprietary technology for their phones?

Used one of those charger adaptors on my iphone with my Taco and the phone got so hot the glass popped out of the phone. Phone almost caught fire.

Thankfully they stuck with the Qi standard. But knowing them they might find a way for you to only use "approved" Qi chargers.

Make sure whatever device you're using supports quick charge, otherwise there wont be a benefit to the upgraded Samsung pad.

The newer Samsung pads do both 5v @ 2a for regular charging as well as 9v @ 1.6a for fast charging so no matter what device you put on there it will select the compatible charging rate.

Thats the main reason I want to do this. With all the problems Samsung has had in the past with overheating batteries, I don't want to use the OEM wireless charger because for some reason it does make batteries incredibly hot which I don't understand.

Im looking to get rid of the QI charger and replace it with the cubby from an SR5. Do you know the part number for the cubby you have in place of the QI pad?

Am I the only on happy with the stock wireless charger? I get it that you can't see the phone too good, but if I need to look at it I just pick it up and then put it back. Faster charging would be nice, but with all the work this looks like it's going to be I'll stick with the stock setup. What issues are you having?

My phone is not compatible with wireless charging I could care less about wireless charging. I would rather have the space in my console.

I just got my first Qi compatible phone and tried to use the Taco's charger for the first time. It charges for about two minutes then goes into thermal shut down (the charger, not the phone). It will not work again until the truck is shut down and restarted. Anybody else experience this? Any ideas on a remedy?

Stock Qi works fine for its designed intentions. Just a heads up for those folks that haven't done the research on fast charge Qi. If you look at the research and facts, fast charge Qi does indeed worsen battery life over the long term. Standard Qi charging does minimal longevity life damage. Quick wireless results in significantly higher heat levels. Before people start saying their phone gets hot while charging it under Qi, yes that's part of the design. The batteries in phones need heat to some degree and can handle temperatures that you are feeling when taking it off. They however are not designed to be charged fast and so hot you can't touch your phone.

This charger wasn't meant to charge your phone from 0% to 100% in a short commute, it was meant to be a luxury that maintains and charges your phone at an acceptable level. If you want a 20-30 minute complete charge use USB.

FYI.. I have a Note 4, got it in Dec 2014 so it is just shy of 3 years old. I use a carrier branded qi fast charge cradel at home. I use some generic qi fast charge tripple coil, blah, blah blah, cats' meow cradle at the office. With that said I can not say I have seen any decline in battery logevity. Maybe I am just lucky. :notsure:

The only time I see fast drops in battery charge are imediately following a Samsung update, and when I am using it heavily and there is no stable wifi; which causes the phone to search, connect and dropp constanly.:annoyed: I just experienced this folowing Irma when our T1 at the office crapped out on an off for about a week. :frusty:

I do not know the part number for the cubby, I bet a dealership could tell you though.

It's not that the OEM charger doesn't charge, it makes my battery super hot for some reason, the samsung wireless charger does not. Ever since the fiasco with the Note7 and the batteries getting overheated, I'd rather have a charger that doesn't overheat my phone.

The problem is the USB doesn't have enough amperage to charge these phones, so it's either replace the wireless charger with something more efficient, or install a USB plug, to me it's the same amount of work either way.
