14 feet long, 8 feet wide custom toy hauler. 3600 pounds dry. Dual axle, dual batteries, dual propane, large one door fridge, stove only, microwave, electric bunk, 15k AC with heat pump, extra cabinets, added 6 inches to bathroom, pushed beds back, no awning, already had the generator

WDH and Friction Sway Control. Sumo Springs. Hayden Transmission Cooler and Wix filter. I have trailer mirrors now. Cooper ST Maxx 265/70R16 in 10 ply. Was not going with a bigger tire due to towing. no way, not a chance

Why is everyone quoting the DRY weight? Its the ACTUAL weight when loaded for travel that matters. Toy box full of your toys, water tank full (assuming you're dry camping at least some of the time), food, bedding, clothing, miscellaneous gear, propane, etc. My Casita has a dry weight around 2100 lbs, but a typical travel weight of 3000, and a max (gross) of 3500. My wife sees empty cabinets as a challenge to see how much she can pack in them.

because most of us don't weigh our trailers when they are fully loaded. The manufacturer weighed my trailer after building it and found that it was 3600 pounds. That's the only true number I have. I'm not going to guess at my total weight and post it here, where people will take it as fact

Pretty sure the wheels are just 16" Taco or FJ steelies, obviously painted white

Difficulty of registration is heavily dependent on the territory from which you're importing and into which state you're doing so. The biggest hurdle is getting the Letter of Compliance from the manufacturer so as to certify that it meets US efficiency/emissions standards. Other than that it's just a bunch of tedious paperwork, plus the time and money involved. It's a pain in the ass of a process but I'd do it again in a heartbeat, if that gives an indication of things. Registering it at the NY DMV took me 11 minutes but I had everything done in advance.

I'm finishing up an article detailing how to go about importing a vehicle from Canada into the States. Should be done in the coming weeks. I'll post it somewhere for everyone to reference.

    Appreciate the info

If they are 16, must be taco steelie
I think FJ Steelers are 17

If you will go through all the trouble, must mean $$$$$ savings was worth it :)

    Looking forward to your article

which is why I plan around the gross trailer weight, unless I have good reason to know its significantly lighter in actual use.

Also because a loaded weight is different per individual, but a dry weight is the same dry weight for everyone, and then they know the difference in what they add is the actual weight...

Dry weight is a pretty important number to use as a baseline...

we test drove a bunch of 2500HD's, mostly 'extra-cab' (aka access cab) with 6.5 and 8' beds... those things are /huge/, while they'd be awesome for towing a large camper on interstates, I'd hate to have to maneuver them around the narrow roads and streets here

also, I really didn't much like the very gadget-laden interiors of the mid to late 2000 models we looked at. way too many buttons and confusing knobs, especially in the upgraded trim levels.

Yessir, 6.6L Duramax with the Allison transmission. Fucking incredible powertrain, with the Banks intake and chip it's a rocket too, scary fast for something that weighs that much

@LeftCoastNerd yeah it's a lot of truck to handle, way too big for the average supermarket lot. It's a supremely comfortable missile on the highway though, you can run an easy 500 miles without thinking twice and the 57-gal gas tank my dad put in makes the highway range something like over 1000 miles. His truck's interior is pretty bare-bones, only option was leather. Love the damn thing.

my problem is, I spend far more time on mountain back roads and in small towns with narrow roads, than interstates. We were looking at 2500HD when we were thinking of getting a /big/ camper, initially a cab-over slide-in, and later, a largish trailer, then we decided to downsize and get the Tacoma and Casita, much happier for our purposes.
