    Well... My new grill shows up tomorrow. I hope it looks as good in person as the video that caused me to buy it. I wasn't a huge fan of the murdered look.. I grew up in the chrome era. Other than emblems this will be the last chrome to go away. There will be more black... ie roof rack... Wheels stay silver until grey SEMAs go on.

    The irony? I'm liking the blacked out look.

    We'll see in less than 24 hours.

    Grill a no show. Ebay seller doesn't respond to email.

    UPS says tracking # is "invalid".

    Nope. Didn't see it until tuesday. It arrived last thursday. Their email had delivery date as today. Seemed clear cut. Didn't think it needed to be checked out.

    Obviously, in retrospect, I wish I would have checked it. But.....I didn't. I was busy at the time. (Email is on work computer, not at home or on phone) Of the thousands of internet transactions I've been a part of, this could be my first to go wrong. I really had no reason to suspect a problem.

    This could be an $84 lesson.

    My day;

    Drive 440 mile round trip to haul home 400lb skid of bird feed. About a year and a half of feed for the parrots!

    Then we went to a local park to help a raptor rehab group release a 2 year old great horned owl that was found in August tangled up in fishing line along a creek. It had a few cuts from the string. As soon as it was healed, it was returned to the wild near where it was found. -INCREDIBLE feeling watching it fly off into the park. Returned just in time for owl mating season!

    Now a shower and sleep. Back 2 work tomorrow

    On the owl: (Above post) Anyone who knows me will tell you I'm CRAZY about birds. They're the most amazing creatures I've ever been around. With our 6 parrots, I managed to get attached to each one within MINUTES of meeting them. The owl we released yesterday....well... I got sorta attached to it the same way. Birds all have individual personalities. This one was IMMIDIATELY aware (and grateful) for being saved. It bonded with the people who helped it. With birds that will be returned to the wild eventually, a great deal of effort is made not to "imprint" them with too much human contact. This bird made that almost impossible. It seemed to want to "imprint" us....Owls are normally very stand-off-ish. Not this one. 17-235 (They aren't given names, just numbers to minimize turning them into pets) as it is known seemed to love the care and attention it got. Some of us were a little apprehensive about releasing it. The sooner the better though...Before it lost it's natural instincts. So when we released it, a few of us thought we would be sad to see it fly off. Quite the contrary. As it took off and streaked towards the sky, all I could do was giggle like a little school girl! It was awesome to see it free and back where it belonged!

    We all stood around for a few minutes, looking toward the sky where he flew out of sight. Then we all shook hands and headed for our vehicles. Back to the real world. From the release point, it is about 5 miles to the exit from the park. Our little caravan reached the exit as a group. We were waiting for a break in traffic on the highway so we could pull out. About that time, a Great Horned Owl streaked past just above the lead vehicle. We're sure it was the one we just released. As it went past us, it banked hard to the right, turned upwards, and started pumping it's wings hard, climbing out of sight in the near darkness. One last salute to his new friends and admirers. One last demonstration to us that he was healthy, happy, and free to soar in the sky again.

    Animals know who their friends are.

    Just so you all know, this bird weighs less than 3 lbs. Over half it's body weight is feathers. It can lift 3-1/2 to 4 times it's own body weight. They are efficient killing machines. Their talons are more powerful than the bite of a pitbull. A couple years ago, I had one strike at a flashlight I was pointing into a tree with. I was trying to see that owl's mate that was in the tree. It ripped the flashlight out of my had. Luckily, it hit the flashlight and not my hand. Most owls are totally fearless.

    Owl's are also the only bird that flies silent. No wind noise at all. They can glide effortlessly for long periods of time. The US Air Force has done studies on owls to see how they fly without disturbing the air and creating wind noise. They are truly an amazing animal.
