I love when someone buys a TRUCK and has 33s on it but complains about gas mileage. Get a Prius with an open trailer if you bought this truck for MPG.

Yeah those 2006....er....2017 Frontiers are awesome. I hear the transmissions use radiator coolant instead of ATF fluid.

Nissan put the XMSN cooler inside the radiator on a bunch of vehicles, it didn’t go so well. The really shitty part is how they acted towards their customers once it started transferring fluid. After seeing how they treated some friends of mine and how they acted on an issue I had with my ‘06 frontier I’ll never own another Nissan again.

Damn dude, I was trying to figure out how that fluid would mix. That makes much more sense.

30 hwy. I have owned Toyotas for 27 years now, mileage hasn't changed all that much over the years, but the price and bloat sure has. Diesel Colorado can achieve 30+ hwy cost about the same as a V6 Tacoma after incentives and discounts. (Toyota doesn't budge much price) No reason why Toyota can't match the Colorado's fuel consumption...I don't care how they get there...small displacement turbo gasser, diesel, hybrid...magic unicorn dust....the mpg's suck for a truck that can't haul much, kinda sad that fullsize 1/2 tons can match or beat it. My buddy's mid roof Sprinter consistently achieves 25 mpg hwy, and that thing dwarfs the Taco, where the Yota can barely crack 20.

Patiently waiting to see what Ford has up their sleeve with the Ranger...extra cab, diesel, manny trans....c'mon Ferrrrrd, you can doet! Be a-ok with an eco-boost too if it achieved high 20's....Ferrrrd don't let us down like Toyota consistently has, as every re-fresh I hope we finally get the HiLux back in the US....annnnnd .................*drum roll*..................we don't.

Stock TuRD sport 2wd. 26 mile commute, 80% highway at 75 mph. I get 22-23mpg per tank and it's been the same most of the 25k I have.

My best so far. This was a 35 mile trip from the top of Rollins Pass back to Boulder. Round trip was about 26 mpg. Mix of city, freeway, 2-lane mountain highway, and off-road.

    Wife had a diesel twin.

    30 mpg....lol.

Lucky to get an average of 22. Saw maybe 26 on Highway. Gutless.

    Not worth the $4k upgrade.

Yep - I just took the big round part and pulled it off the cap, then tucked the tether behind the skeleton of the door. Problem solved in 15 seconds.

Other forums people are getting 30+ hwy unloaded, and 25 mpg with a FWC. 15 when pulling a 23' trailer

Guys are raving how much power it has.

Not really a $4K upgrade when you can consider a V6 Tacoma cost the same, finding them around the $32-34K mark.

    Yes.

...and people here are reporting 30 mpg in the Tacoma...even in this thread.

    ...and raving about the power.

    We've owned both.

We had 44 fuel ups on Fuelly with our babymax - average was 22.3. Our average so far with the Tacoma is 19.3 over 9 fuel ups. Our dmax has several runs up to central Oregon in that mix. The Tacoma is only two months old and has had no freeway trips longer than 50 miles.

The babymax is a pig. It accelerates like a drunken cow and if you are doing anything other than cruising down a level road at a steady rate of speed, it sucked up DEF and regens twice as much as my cummins. I don't need to read any fanboy accounts.....I owned one.

How many people on here recommend a diesel have had to maintain one with the modern SCR/EGR emissions system? If you have then I don't have to lecture you about all of the emissions issues, the crappy stop and go traffic performance and the potential damage the EGR system can wreak on oil life, maintenance costs and efficiency.

Oh, and my 3/4ton crew cab 4x4 cummins will get 23 to 24 mpg all day long on a nice level highway, and about 18 average on mixed driving (18.1 to be exact). It's pathetic that a little inline 4 oil burner will a lot less truck to push averages only slightly higher than that.

I've owned a lot of diesels over the last 30+ years and the babymax (actually a VM Motori) was probably the worst I've ever had....and I owned a 6.0l power stroke which was a complete shitshow. Utterly joyless to drive and a reliability headache. Anyone thinking of purchasing one should research the actual manufacturer of the motor and the issues they've had across their product line. Look no further than the catastrophic failures plaguing the eco-diesel (same manufacturer)....

I'd say yes. We tried to like it...but there are some serious concerns I have about the serviceability of this motor.

It's a design that's been around for awhile, but slapping the emissions systems on it that make it compliant with our regulations imposes some serious long term maintenance and cost issues. The amount of regens this engine needed to keep the DPF sensors happy in around town driving was about as bad as our non-SCR TDI. The VM Motori FCA is using on the Eco-Dioesels is having some serious catastrophic issues. VM Motori has just not done well adapting to anything but third world diesel applications.

Look, the d-max in the full size GM trucks is a pretty solid engine as is the current cummins in the Ram. Even with those engines, the SCR/EGR systems are a headache. Supposedly the next round of diesels will do away with the EGR (akin to breathing your own toxics farts) and incorporate a single module treatment.

I'd give systems like the upcoming Cummins single module after treatment series of engines a few years to work out the bugs. The rest of the manufacturers are/have developed similar technologies. Once these engines can be had without the self-damaging EGR systems, it may be worth it to take a look at them again.

As crappie man about his experience with the baby-max......he's on here as well.
