Point noted. No offense taken. I'm not having a shop do it. I'll figure it out...even if it's the hard way.
This is a learning experience for me, don't think I'll learn much by having someone else do it.

Buy a digital angle finder. harbor freight actually has a decent one. Jberry someone on Tw has a good post about using it to find the correct angles.

Totally agree. Glad you are willing to do it yourself and take advice from others. A lot of people now days don't lol

I used this to double check my driveshaft angle and it was pretty easy.

I would probably assume over half of the long travel trucks for sale have been jumped or beat on at some point the other half are hardly even used (like mine when I sold it to be honest).

I'm impressed he jumped it with a rtt on top of a shell. I'd never do that for fear of flipping

I mean, I don't see how or why you'd skip that part. You have to weld on the axle perches, might as well set them up at the pinion angle you want. A shim would create and even larger space between the leaves and the axle decreasing lift.

One thing there's no shortage of is opinions and theory about what angle will work. I just went with Tim's suggestion and the test drive went fine.

I just finished my rear today. I gots the vibes. I set everything as it was and matched the angle to .10. I think I need a new CB cause there is a lot of play in it. Also where do I get my bypasses charged?
    I'll shim it next week

I lined the pinion up with the shaft to be parallel. No vibes that I've noticed up to 100 MPH and no dead carrier bearings with 64k miles and about 16k being on long travel. My brother set his Ranger up differently and no vibes either, I don't recall what angle he used but it worked also.

I followed this method when setting up my pinion angle for my DMZ kit and it worked quite well. No vibrations and for my 2WD I had set the pinion flange to -2 degrees so that it would come more level under load.

A good read to gain some knowledge and familiarize oneself of pinion angles: http://www.hotrod.com/articles/91758/

    ...too much shit to list.
Except that logic is designed for trucks that have a double cardan CV driveshaft, not a conventional driveshaft. First gens had a double cardan, second gens do not. If your truck doesn't have a CV driveshaft (factory second gens), the pinon angle is supposed to match the working angle of the u-joint after the carrier bearing (or the output flange of the transmission/xfer case for those with a single cab). With 2 piece driveshafts with conventional u joints (second gens except single cab), you can get the working angle by measuring the first piece of the driveshaft and subtract the difference of the output flange of the transmission/transfer case.

With a double cardan, I always set the pinon angle 2* down from straitline to combat axle wrap.

I got real lucky finding this tundra rear on Craigslist for 95.00 in Denver. It's in pretty good condition too.
