I really hope there's a definite fix for this if mine ever starts.

Face it bro - For many, Manuals are way to complicated. We are living in a time when driving has been reduced to - Stop/Go and Aim.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Got some Pilot aluminum pedal pads dirt cheap at that Advanced auto store. The corn cobs were blowing them out for $1.35 so I grabbed a set of them bitches. I’ll see if I like them

Proving, once again, that your brain is smarter that the Taco's computer !! If you look at the final drive ratios you would understand why it had no pickup...The Tach would have showed you that the engine was operating at much too slow of a speed to offer up much power. If you ever drove a truck with a narrow power-band diesel you would understand that you can't ignore the engine speed and just push the peddle further down expecting results. Look at the power curve of the 3.5....The power is there - It's just in a place that some action is required to access it. Similar complaints when new MT owners grumble about lack of acceleration when they down shift - ONE - gear while ignoring the tach and expecting results. Clay

With winter on its way and frigid temperatures here in Connecticut I have a question ( especially to Tacoma manual owners in even colder climates).

Last winter it was near zero for a few days. Early one morning at about 1 degree above I started my 2016 TRD DC 4 x4 manual 6 speed and found the clutch heavy and sluggish.
I didn’t warm it up long and backed out the driveway. When I depressed the clutch to shift into first gear the clutch pedal remained on the floor very briefly.
As the unit warmed up it was fine. Only a few minutes driving and all seemed normal.
    My question:
Has anyone else in frigid areas noticed this sluggish clutch behavior???
You’d think Toyota would test their trucks in both extreme hot and cold temperatures

    Thanks all.

totally normal, many reports of this exactly as you describe. i don't get as much of that but even down here the clutch is noticeably slow to return on mornings under say 30F.

Thank you for that reply. I figured it was normal but a real oversight on this model with the manual transmission.
What the hell do people in Alaska or Montana etc do besides engine heaters?

When I lived in Montana, engine heaters were absolutely required. I used to stay at Holiday Inns as they all had outlets in front of each parking spot.

I figured that’s how you arctic cold guys got by. I even heard parking meters were equipped with heater units in places up north.
    Thanks for the reply

Just adjusted my parking brake, and holy shit what a difference. I did like it was suggested and jacked up my rear wheels so I could free spin them to see if the brake was dragging, and got it all tightened up.

Increased my clutch stop spacer by about the thickness of a nickel. Went up a couple steep hills and a fast highway run. No noticeable slippage or burning clutch smell. So far, no more chirp either!

Add an engine heater. Its a cartridge style, and very easy to install. No need to break in to the coolant system. It also helps clutch action. The clutch line is routed very near the area where the heater element is installed.

Do you have a part number on this? I see below -20 each winter and my truck hates it. Clutch almost fully sticks to the floor at -25.

I get that sound if I’m in the desert and try to drift in the dirt. Kind of annoying to be honest. I push the button at the top and it mostly gets rid of it if I’m not giving it too much gas around the dirt corner.

I'm beggining to think that all I heard was the traction control. I thought I had broken my steps or ground some gears somewhere. Although very interestingly, my passenger side rear tire pressure became lower than the rest of the tires.

I had the same issue once last year, but found letting her get fully up to operating temperature helped considerably.

I am 100% sure Toyota tested hardly anything on the third gen, and absolutely nothing on the third gen with the manual.
