Simple matter to up grade to the newer style MAF Sensor

If I remember only one wire needs to be moved on the plug

Yeah, I've done the JB method help up for some time and finnaly gave out. If I don't find the same box maybe converting isn't a bad idea. Hopefully I'll have some luck with the options listed yesterday. Thanks for the ideas

In the meantime if it's really fubar'd you can try the following method. I suggest wearing a respirator while attempting this - I came up with the method while resealing door panels that couldn't be screwed together. Just use a cheap wood burner (I used an old Harbor Freight $4 soldering iron) to melt and basically weld the plastic back together. You can use zip ties like welding sticks lol. It's super ghetto and stinks like a mother. However it can save your bacon in certain situations. If your truck isn't sidelined until you get a new unit I'd skip this method, but if your truck isn't going anywhere because the part is so badly broken then you could try it I guess.

I had the same problem, I got the different style box and the MAS to fit it. I needed to replace them both anyway, So it made sense.

This is on the 3.4 engine

The old style Has a Big Clunky MAF that fit completely in the Air intake tube

I am not sure just what year the change was 98 or 99

The newer style MAF is much smaller and bolts into the air intake tube.

I had one of the old ones I tried to give away but no one wanted it so I tossed it out

The Air filter boxes were different for each application

I wanted all my 3.4 engines to have the same MAF never knowing when one needs borrowed

I think I have the old one on my 98. The MAF has a big torpedo looking plastic piece on it. 99 might be the year - they went to 2 cats that year so maybe they were reworking the whole air system.

I think cost to produce the sensor might be the factor .

As the new style was much cheaper when I changed to the newer style

I'll probably just go to a mushroom filter when I put my fiberglass fenders on. I'm assuming there's no issues with the ecu going from the old style MAF to the new? They send the same signal / voltage?

I think one wire needs to be changed on the plug .

Without looking I can`t recall just which one

Just the difference in the Harness between the different years

Pictures were on the first page, it appears mine is just the older style like mentioned above you can see the MAF is inline with the intake and fits into the box not from the side like the picture of the one I kept finding online.

Thanks! I was hoping to see the new one, but I think it's just gonna be an aftermarket one if I do anything different.
