    Hello TW aficionados

Last week I was shopping for Tacoma. I test drove one and liked it and nearly made the deal. Well I was leaving and going to another dealership I totalled my Nissan titan when I hit the guard rail on the interstate. Fast forward to today: i'm definitely going to be buying a truck within the next two weeks. I am zeroing in on a limited 2017 model.

My current plans are to level it and if I'm reading this board correctly that means a 3 inch lift in the front and a 1" lift in the back. I work from home so the only travelling I do is to do hunting and fishing. I need this truck to perform towing a small boat and a four wheeler and driving across the country hunting and fishing.

One of my main questions are what tire options do I have if I decided to keep the stock wheels and I do the 3 inch front 1 inch rear lift? I'm a complete idiot about wheels and rather not risk ordering the wrong ones. If I could keep the stockers and add some mud tires with that small lift I should be good to go right?

I would like to thank you in advance for any help you guys can give me.

    SenseiBuddy

Ps I've been reading the board and lurking a bit. I'm looking forward to getting started on my next truck.

Damn man. Sucks that you wrecked your truck. I assume everyone is okay...

    You plan on buying locally?

There are a lot of suspension and tire threads you can search and I'm sure other will come along and give you some advice.

Call me or stop by the house if you want. As far as lifts go, I can show you what I did to mine and what I plan on upgrading to.

Kind of an extreme move to get your wife to OK a new truck, eh? :D

JMHO, but I would run the stock wheels for a while.

Get the tires you want and then take your time deciding which rims you like.

Buddy, why spend all that money on a new truck only to change suspention, wheels and tires? Maybe someone makes a truck you don't have to rebuild.

I want a lifted look. It's really that simple.
In 5 years the truck will belong to my son who is 400% redneck

Mud tires and lift. That's all I want to do to it.
I do love the stock wheels on the limited tho.

I'd love to see what you did. As far as buying locally it really don't matter. I can go anywhere in the us, fly in and drive home.

If you work from home, and only hunt and fish, the stock version of the truck off the showroom floor is plenty.
Now, if you want to mod, for the sake of modding, get them tires, but be forewarned, this will only be the beginning of a never-ending project...

Kite, I don't plan on reinventing it w tons of mods. I only want lift and mud tires on the stock wheels. Bed cover and of course some whiskey wipers. https://youtu.be/tuk_s2SVQR0

lol. Why have I not seen this before?
I realize what you're wanting to do with your truck, all I'm saying is, if you're on TW for long at all, good luck with sticking to your plans... There will always be something else you can do to your truck.

I ended up buying mine in Georgia. Mostly because I had to go out of state to find a manual, but you can also find much better deals once you get out of the gulf states. Handled everything by email and phone and they delivered it to my house.
I haven't done much so far. Just small lift, wheels, and tires. You can check out some pics in my gallery.
I think I still have your cell number in my phone if it's the same number from when we were working at PE.

I bought mine in NC. Up in the Chicago area now. You're right. It amazes me how much more expensive these trucks are up here. They're insanely marked up. I mean, I'm not paying $37 for an SR5. Someone must have had a really good dose when they marked the inventory up here.

Kite I fully anticipate the urge to mod. On my recently departed Titan, it had bed cover, all terrains, JBA headers, cat back, bully dog tuner, pioneer DVD, etc...

I have to start somewhere and mud tires and lift are first.

But my main question is can I run stock limited wheels 18"s with which mud tires? Assuming there will be some levelling kit by bilstien or OME or toytec.

That is a little difficult to answer without knowing how much lift/leveling you'll be adding. I am also not super familiar with people who have swapped tires with the limited's 18" wheels. Not something I'm sure I would want, or many people on this forum have done. However, someone is bound to have and answer for you b/c this is TW after all...

To the best of my knowledge you can run 265/60R18 tires. Possibly 285/65r18 after leveling.
But I'll let someone more knowledgeable than I confirm/fix that

2" of lift in the front feels like too much to me. My truck is loaded down with stuff, but I don't think the rear was 2" higher than the front when new. Seems like more than enough to put you into bro lean category, especially if you use the bed at all.

There is a place in BR called Godso's that I am considering going to for the small lift. Bro lean? Is that higher in the front then the back? If so that's a no Bueno.

Yes on the bro lean. I'm looking for one of the suspension threads that had the stock measurements for reference. 3\1 probably is close to level, but if you use the truck at all it would have to sag. I do prefer a truck to have a slightly higher bed though, some prefer it level.
