I've owned 16 trucks or SUV's over the last 45 years. Almost 50/50 as to MT vs AT. At one time MT was more reliable, cost less and got better fuel mileage. In 2017 I'd call reliability and fuel mileage a tie. A MT still costs less initially, but when you factor in resale value they actually cost you more in the long run.

Off road I find a MT easier to use going downhill, and auto easier going up. Autos are better in mud, snow and for towing.

Honestly, overall an auto is the better option. Unless you just like stirring a stick as you drive there is no practical reason to choose a MT today.

I would disagree with auto being better in snow, it might be my experience, but I feel I have better control in a manual on snow than an auto.
Why do you say when you factor in resale a manual cost more?

Considering it’s been there since the ‘70s I’d call it an atrocity that it was moved in MY16.

I went out of my way to find a 6spd taco! Bought my ‘05 with the manual! Loving every second of it! I should add that I am 21, some of us millennials like to have fun while we drive.

I love my manual and I've always owned manuals, but living in SoCal I'm sure I'll eventually get an automatic for that bumper to bumper traffic. The only way I'll be able to justify it will be when Tacomas get active cruise and it brings you to a complete stop in traffic then picks back up on its own.

A newport beach wife also costs more in the long run than a woman from Provo Utah. But you can't put a price on the inherent pleasure and beauty, of the woman and the MT. That is priceless.

To have the control of the clutch, and the car/truck/woman do exactly what I say..... one cannot put a dollar figure on that.

Never owned an automatic in my life. I don't know if I have spent enough time driving AT to have and educated opinion. That said, my biased personal opinion is that you don't have the same control with an auto; regardless of conditions.

The pull e brake is one of my favorite interior features on my truck. Takes up zero space and it is just kind of fun to use for some reason.

The e-brake on my Corolla is on the console. When I clean the car out every couple of years....the brake lever is one more thing to clean around. I have to wipe up chewing tobacco, potato chip crumbs and spilled Bud Light. Too much crap.....

My 06 is a manual....i prefer MT as they are much better in the snow....the computers cannot anticipate snow conditions yet like the human eye...not to mention engine breaking has helped me from wrecking on multiple occasions.

For me pushing it back is most fun

Passengers have no clue what’s happening

To them it might as well be a hand starter on a steam engine :D
