I have a 2017 Tacoma Double Cab Limited with 22K. Water pours in from the back sliding glass window. It has run down behind the leather seat, from the liner and has run into the seats and the speaker. I have appt. to take it in to the dealership. Has anyone experienced any problems after they repair it? I am concerned about the damage the water may have done to the lining and the speaker.

It's a third brake light issue. Toyota knows about it and is fixing it. I was told by Toyota customer care it was a problem with a robot over torquing and crushing the gasket. I am predicting there with be a TSB coming out very soon. Call Toyota corp. customer service 1-800-331-4331 and pitch a bitch. They will assign you a reference number you can use if your dealership is slow to respond and if there is collateral damage like mold issues or damages to carpet and seats.

It has now been 4 weeks since I first mentioned this to my Toyota dealership. They claim it's the seal on the top of the rear window, but each week like clockwork I get a phone call on Thursday saying that the third party glass guy scheduled to do the window replacement on the next day (Friday) has had (insert catastrophic disaster) and has to reschedule...

What happens if I call Toyota customer service?
Not trying to get anyone in trouble at the dealership if the third party guy actually keeps canceling and I believe life happens, but this is getting a little out of control even for me. My main concern is the seats growing mold.

It's to the point that if it's 50% or higher chance of rain, I lay a towel down between the rear head rests and the window in order to attempt to catch the water before it fills my storage compartment...

Looks like I was bitten by the third brake light bug. Brought the truck in this week and now the back order number on the part is well past 400.

This was on the service record:

WATER LEAK TEST, REMOVE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND INSPECT-SEAL DEFORMED, RESEAL LIGHT ASSEMBL ~|~CUSTOMER REPORTS WATER LEAKING INTO CAB AT REAR CENTER BELOW 3RD BRAKE LIGHT? ADVISE ~|~C WATER ENTERING REAR CAB C THIRD BRAKE LIGHT SEAL DEFORMED R WATER TEST AND RESEAL THIRD BRAKE LIGHT ~|~1 THIRD BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY ON ORDER. CURRENTLY ON BACKORDER, WATER LEAK TEST, REMOVE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND INSPECT-SEAL DEFORMED, RESEAL LIGHT ASSEMBL

My dealership insisted that it was the rear window seal that was leaking. Took them a month to get a replacement window. They put it in last Friday. The rear seats were wet when I woke up this morning.

    Definitely the 3rd brake light.

It is very frustrating to have to experience all of these issues and dealer visits. The reason many people bought a Toyota is because of the "perceived" reliability and yet they find themselves taking multiple trips to the dealer and waiting weeks on end in some cases for back-ordered parts. The alternative is turning wrenches in your own driveway and applying jerry rigs to your brand new vehicle. I understand the frustration, believe me.

Do you happen to know the part number they were using to find the third brake light? Was it the whole thing or just the seal/gasket?

The service tech said that he would not be surprised if Toyota was redesigning the whole light assembly and gasket before it shipped out so I am guessing the light, gasket and all. Not sure of the part number tho...

Ok folks, here is the scoop...

The new light assembly came in yesterday and the dealership installed it today. No clue how it got in so fast, but it did.

Service tech claims it was a redesigned light assembly and had a different part number from the original light assembly.

I promptly took it through the car wash to check for leaks and it's dry.

I dropped my truck off Monday evening, I left to go camping last Friday around 10am. I got about half way to the campground in my wife's CRV and they call to tell me my truck is finished. The first thing I asked them was, "Did anyone hit the thing with a hose to see if it leaks?" They assured me that they did and I'll be picking it up tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, my local area got a pretty serious thunder storm last evening, so if it's still leaking, it'll show.

Really wish I could have taken the truck camping...

My dealer tested both the brakelight and the rear window, rear window leaked and brakelight was fine. Toyota did a test case on friday and my rear window was replaced saturday. Sorry you had such bad luck.
