Thanks for the reply! I am currently reading the whole thread as we speak. I started from page 1. That's nice to hear that you are satisfied so far with your Tacoma.

I was planning on getting a White TRD Off Road Short Box. Sucks that I only have one dealer that will have it on stock in two weeks time. Other dealers will have to order one if I decide to go with them so I cannot even get a good deal from them.

Zero issues here, and I owned a second gen for 10 years. It really gets up and goes in ECT power mode. No regrets. Much nicer and quieter interior too.

That's nice to hear that your 3rd gen is ok.

To be honest, like the look of the 2nd gen more. But they are so expensive. I have a friend who works at a Chevy dealer here and they have a 2012 at $28,000. It already has 89,000 kms. He tried to ask for more discounts but failed. It's been sitting in their lot for the last 6 weeks and have dropped $3000 dollars from the original price.

I can get the 3rd gen TRD Off Road at $37,000, $3,000 off msrp. It's insane how the Tacoma's hold their value.

If you are buying new - you might consider a 2018. Should be arriving soon. Not sure what is new. I think the safety package that Toyota is pretty much making standard on all cars & trucks, is new for 2018 Tacomas.

I asked my dealer about the 18, they said it will definitely more expensive than the 17, by a thousand or more.

I live like 2 minutes away from the dealer but I can't imagine going through all the things that the current owners have gone through with their Tacoma issues. It's an expensive truck and I did not expect Toyota to have these issues. We have been long time Toyota buyers, so what I have read so far is a little disappointing.

And I have read the whole thread. What a way to spend my thanksgiving.

    If you can do that deal for a 2017 for that price.....Go for it man... that's a great price.....provided it's a '17, 4x4.....

    Welcome to the Group..!!

My 2016 is fine.... I had to fill up the Tranny/rear end/Transfer case and front diff myself, then grease it...... then took it in for the tranny ECU upgrade....

Very happy with it now and I know I have all the fluids, as I did it MYSELF..!!

    Thanks for the welcome Over60!

I have a bro in law who is a mechanic here in Winterpeg. He does all my car maintenance for free, he doesn't want me to pay for his labor and time. Such a great guy. I just return the favor as much as I can when he needs some help that I can provide. :)

Yeah, the deal my friend is giving me, $3000 off is going to be a 2017 4x4 double cab TRD Off road. It's on its way here he said.

Well, my wife has given me the go signal to get the truck. (It was a long process haha) But I am still not 100% sure IF I will go for it. Maybe when it comes here and be able to test drive it, then I will decide. Hopefully all will end well. If not, I will just get a used 2nd gen.

I am planning on getting the white one. I liked the Inferno but it was a no go with the lady boss. I wanted to get an access cab too but that was shot down too. :)

I wonder if the late 2017's would still have the same issues as the other ones from 2016 and early 2017.

OP...I agree with @knottybaffled. That "Safety Sense" stuff will cost you....... and in my mind, that "extra" cost is not really worth it..... I don't need, or want ANY of that stuff.... Just give me a well made, reliable truck... I can run the Cruise Control. Ican keep it between the lines. etc. etc... I don't want it slowing down if I'm planning on passing when I get to the guy up front.....

Way too many "nanny" features that just add issues and potential problems and cost after the 36 mo. warranty..!!

My advice is get the 2017 and save a lot of future headaches...!!

    Good luck..!!

You will appreciate the auto high beams when the people who never dim there lights on the highway get that feature.

Yeah the resale is insane. Sold my 2006 with high kms for $14,000. Used ones are really pricey, that is why I pulled the trigger on a 2017. Looks great in white too!

The sport is quite "firm" on the hwy bumps around here, but I like it firm anyways.....
My last Taco (2006 sport) was not as firm... and I had to add a rear leaf to the springs to keep it from Bottoming out with 400 lbs in the bed....
The 2016 is MUCH firmer.... I like.... Not all will.....test drive 'em both, then decide..!
I think the PRO is NOT "lifted", as far as I'm aware.... Just 18" wheels....!!
