That's good to hear. I look forward to getting this repaired and not ever having to look back on the issue. Thanks for following up.

I hear you. But I don't visit here as often as I used to. A lot of great info...but a lot of immature shitheads. I don't have the time nor the patience for the bullshit. I wish you the best.

This "wrapped" tacoma appears to have the same grille deformation.

I'd like to see a closeup photo. If that Tacoma is afflicted with the same deformity, that's unfortunate. Hopefully these are rare cases and not the start of a trend.

Do you guys think it is possible that the Oil Cooler (The one that sitting right in front of the Radiator) generated heat, and causing the grill to deform? The spot actually sitting right on top of it, and if the Oil temp getting too hot then it may generated enough heat to slowly makes the grill deform.

Not joking, but I think the more closed-in design of the Pro Grille probably traps more heat. It is more “snooty”. Im guessing the Pro Grille was an afterthought by Toyota and didn’t get the testing it required to ensure proper cooling in all situations (including engine shut-down scenarios). It would appear the SR grille may have the same issue. The solution is likely to go back to the cheese grater. Show me a warped cheese grater surround, and I’ll admit I’m wrong.

Isn't the grille a few posts up from yours a "cheese grater" grille?

No, that is an SR grille, if we are talking the flat black truck. I’ve tried grating cheese with the SR grille, but it just makes a mess. You need the TRD grille if you want decent nachos or pizza.

There's just nothing back there that would cause that much heat...

Plus the trucks had been sitting still over night, not sitting in traffic idling or on a lengthy trip.

Is there anything in the engine bay that would get hot enough for radiant heat to travel down the hood support to that area?

    Sure doesn't seem like it...

I agree, unless you were road-raging and laying on the horn for an hour. :D

My only other thought, is that the whole surround went soft, and the exact place where it buckled was just the first random place it gave up and relieved the pressure. Maybe that spot is the just the weakest part of the whole molding, which is why the other trucks failed at the same location.

Yup, that's the only logical answer at this point.

A bad batch of grille surrounds made it out and they're too thin or something in that area.

That would also explain the one service guy and his "we'll see more of these I'm sure" comment.

Not trying to :stirthepot:, but how much heat do those LED light bars give off? Is it significant?

Sounds like a perfectly logical reason to trade in.
