Worst news for the 2018's is the Limited to a SB. What is Toyota thinking?? Dumb mistake, IMO.

In Canada, there has been more of a customer demand for the short box, as it has basically not been available here until the 2016-17's. My dealer told me last year that they would be pretty much only be stocking short beds. I can definitely understand why they want the Limited in the short box version. Canada does not offer a lot of choice in configurations, so I suspect the Limited short bed is based on dealer requests - right or wrong.

Maybe. But if the LTD was only offered in a SB when I bought mine, I would have never purchased it. Would have gone TRD and then been disappointed with our option offers. USA gets way more better configurations than we do. It's crap. If Toyota wants to conform, then offer the same options.

Strangely, where I live, I almost never see short beds, other than my own. The local Jim Pattison dealer sells more 3rd Gen TRD Sport long beds than any other configuration. When I ordered a short bed, they even looked at me kinda funny.

I rarely see short beds, maybe a couple in 2 years. Maybe it's a BC thing. :)

Now that the OR is available in DC config with a short box, I expect to see more short boxes around. Previously with only the 6spd manual available in the short box I think that limited how many short boxes you see on the road.

I love the manual, but nowadays most people prefer the autos.

As TacoTrooper said it's because short bed was never available in the automatic in Canada until 2017. (double cab).

Could you not buy a 3rd Gen DCSB auto in Canada in 2016?

I didn’t realize when I bought my TRD OR Short Bed AT in 2017 that it was the first time it was offered in Canada. I figured you could have bought the same in 2016.

I took the hit and accepted the auto so I could have a long box. I like the firm ride of the Sport, but what I really wanted was a rear locking diff in a DCLB. i figure its easier to add a locker than to change the trucks wheelbase.

According to this website, Toyota Canada sold 12,618 Tacomas in 2016 vs US at 191,631.

    http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01/toyota-tacoma-sales-figures/

I can see why Toyota sells less configurations in Canada, as the volume is just not there. When you break 12,618 down by models, then by province - it's easy to see why you probably don't see a lot of DCSB's around. 2016 was manual Sport only. Off Road SB automatic only, arrived in 2017. Seems like Tacomas are pretty rare to begin with.

In Canada, Ford sold 145,409 F150's in 2016 by comparison. GM sold 96,023 Sierra/Silverados and Ram sold 89,048 Rams in 2016.

If you do the math (very loosely), it’s about the same amount of Tacomas per capita US/CANADA (10X the population, and about 10X the Tacomas). I am surprised the offerings are so different, but I suppose that seeking the Canadian approvals are expensive or something for each seperate configuration.

I waited since 2005 for this exact configuration. DCSB Offroad honestly was the only one I wanted. I haul stuff but not often and not a lot, I wanted the rear locker and did not want a fake hood scoop.

Then again I contract downtown at times in Vancouver and the extra foot becomes a pain in the concrete parkades and parallel parking on the busy streets.

Surprised by how few Tacos are sold here compared to the US. I can see the appeal of the DCSB OR now available, even with just the Auto. In fact on my way to work I spotted 3 of them within 3 blocks of each other on Fir St!
