Here are the PIDs and other values you need to enter into Torque Pro on an Android device to monitor your transmission fluid temperatures on a 2016+ Tacoma.

2016+ Tacoma, V6, Automatic transmission. I have not verified this on 4 cylinder models. It might work. Would anyone like to check?

    Torque Pro App instructions:
    1. From home screen, press the gear in lower left. Choose Settings.
    2. Choose Manage extra PIDs/Sensors
    3. Press three dots uppper right, this is the menu. Choose Add custom PID.
    4. Enter the following information. The bold items must be entered as shown. Unbolded items can be changed or left alone.

    OBD2 Mode and PID: 221627
Long Name: Transmission Fluid Pan Temperature
    Short Name: TF1 (pan)
    Minimum Value: -40
    Maximum Value: 350

Scale Factor: x1 (do not change)
    Unit Type: F
    Equation: (A*459/255)+(B*1.6/255)-40
    OBD Header: 701

    Diagnostic start command: (leave blank)
    Diagnostic stop command: (leave blank)
Overrides PID: Does not override any PID

    OBD2 Mode and PID: 221628
Long Name: Transmission Fluid Post-Converter Temperature
    Short Name: TF2 (conv)
    Minimum Value: -40
    Maximum Value: 350

Scale Factor: x1 (do not change)
    Unit Type: F
    Equation: (A*459/255)+(B*1.6/255)-40
    OBD Header: 701

    Diagnostic start command: (leave blank)
    Diagnostic stop command: (leave blank)
Overrides PID: Does not override any PID

If you don't know what Torque is or how to connect to your Android device, you will need a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle and Torque Pro App.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011NSX27A?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005...=bafx+obd2&dpPl=1&dpID=416SaTHOpkL&ref=plSrch

    ***
Now with Apple Support! You will need a different OBD2 dongle because the Apple devices don't allow bluetooth connection to dongles like these. @Hank Heel has shown that OBD Fusion App from the Apple iTunes store allows the creation of custom PIDs. *I cannot say what values these entries default to, so I can not bold the ones which need to be changed*

Here is an example while towing up the steepest part of the hill in second gear. But I have installed a large after market cooler so that helps keep the temps down. If you tow with the normal tow package cooler, you need to monitor your trans temps

wow, this is very useful. Do you use pan or post converter temp reading to check automatic transmission fluid level?

The fluid flows into the coolers when the converter temp goes above 195F... but I just pinned the thermostat open and checked the fluid after letting it pump through after 5 minutes to get air bubbles out. I also tried to fill the cooler and new lines with fluid before checking. It took very little. I filled it twice and let it run out. I plugged before it stopped coming out the second time.

Should Ask mod to add these into the 3rd get maintenance diy thread, deductive reasoning dictates that diy folk would appreciate this

In the first line where it asks for - OBD2 Mode and PID (in hex - eg: '01 .......

do we enter PID:221627 or leave blank ?

Maybe state ' OBD2 Mode and PID if needed ' before value like in other statements ?

    Thanks for this.

    Appears to work :)

Try hooking it up to Torque. It's Bluetooth, right?

Download Torque Lite and see if it'll hook up.

Or are you asking if Carista will do this? I don't know Carista

Not using carista. I just have the Bluetooth piece made by them.

I didn't see the lite version when I searched. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

maybe it's just called Torque now. Try the free version and the get the Pro version if it works. You need Pro to add the custom PIDs for transmission temps

    Some notes.

*Don't start the truck with Torque connected to the OBD2 dongle. It sometimes throws an ABS warning. It isn't a check engine light, just a warning. Unplugging and restarting the truck clears the warning

**You cannot put the PID in the long form name. It doesn't like that and it won't work

***One tester had issues using the OBD2 dongle due to his speedometer calibration unit

**** This might work with Engine Link on Apple devices

Good job on this post OP. Works great.
Looking for a great android device to mount permanently in the truck.
Question is what type and where.
Anybody have any good suggestions or links/threads ?

I have a Samsung A8 tablet. I also use it for off road mapping. I am interested in semi-permanent mounting.
