What's the chatter on the 2018's?

Well I'm glad to hear that the "chatter" within the dealership network places the release sometime this month. Now that the 18 Camry and Tundras are on the lots, I don't believe another model release would be holding them back. It just seems odd to have a build date on a truck that hasn't been released yet.

 

What are your thoughts about interest rates for the 2017 or 2018’s? Good credit scores... do you use Toyota financing or outside sources?

I’m game planning for the 2018 Taco or maybe Tundra. Also does Toyota negotiate on new truck prices? Let’s say the sticker price is $36,500, what’s a fair offer? I’ve purchased 3 new Honda’s for my wife and they’ll come off the sticker price 6-8%.

The runners were delayed production for 2017 due to earthquake damage in Japan, and subsequently shortened the 2017 production. so the 2018s are on time this year. No tss, my guess is it will be redesigned for 2019.

Try credit unions, they usually have the best rates. They’ll negotiate, you just gotta do your research and know what you are willing to pay and what you won’t pay. Don’t discuss monthly payments, look at the full price or even OTD price.

 

I'd say always show up with a pre-approved rate from a local bank or credit union. Like most dealers, they will "shop" the rate from various banks and get various back end kick backs. I could be wrong, but Toyota has a set floor plan, but the dealers can "buy-down" the interest rate at their discretion if it makes sense for them financially. I don't believe you are negotiating with Toyota Financial directly.

 

I'm actually really hoping the 2018s do not receive the TSS, that type of stuff really doesn't need to be put on a truck. Can you imagine being in the dirt and forgetting to turn that off then having a tumble weed roll in front of you in the middle of a turn and the truck applying the brakes? Bad news bears. Or for those of us that like the desert I wouldn't trust having that in my truck and driving fast in the dirt at all. I'm stuck waiting to see what happens with my TDI but if this goes on the 2018 tacoma Ill be hunting for a 2017 or buying a used one.

 

You do realize that all of the TSS-P safety features can be turned off right?

 

Better starting hunting for a 2017 before all the good ones are sold.

 

That Safety Sense stuff will be added to the 18s, I would start shopping for a 17.

 

The only two models for 2018 that won't receive TSS are the 4runner and the 86. It will be standard equipment on every other model.

 

Permanently off? I am expecting to have to turn it off every single time I turn the truck on.

Trust me I would buy one today if I felt like having two car payments but I don't. Gotta love dieselgate.

Here's the 2018 4runner build link...you aren't going to find TSS on any of them.

 

I know I have looked, 2018 Tacoma build isn't out yet and I haven't seen anything official from Toyota anywhere regarding the Tacoma's and what updates they are getting, its all been hearsay.

 

Looks like a Nissan Frontier/Ridgeline combo. That's a no sell for sure.

The majority of truck owners don’t go off-road; so those types of scenarios don’t apply to the majority. But I do understand your plight. I would advise just getting a 2017.

 

Apparently 2018 Tacoma's can already be pre-"ordered" or reserved at some dealers and some people on this forum are already doing that. I guess they are agreeing to simply pay MSRP since there is no official pricing released by Toyota yet. I heard they don't expect the 2018's to start actually hitting dealer lots until late November or early December. Once the dealers get some official detailed pricing from Toyota, I would at least like to start engaging/negotiating with some dealers.

Not sure how much the local dealers here in Southern California will negotiate on a new 2018's before they're even hitting the lots. The dealers here try hard not to negotiate ("These trucks sell themselves"...oh STFU.) but I know I will go far and wide throughout this whole state if need be. Hell, I may even go to Arizona or Nevada or further. I sure as hell won't pay MSRP. There is always someone somewhere hungry enough for a low price on guaranteed truck sale and I am patient and disciplined to find them.

 

TSS would have saved my '08 4runner. Even then, I was extremely thankful for the airbags which, if I recall, were not well received at first either.

TSS is one of the main reasons I'm upgrading from my '16.

 

How about he just turns it off before he goes off reading? I wonder if we can opted out of seatbelts so we can be thrown clear in a crash.
