Been off bikes for years. Got back into motorcycle racing and now need to get back into shape. Picked this up last week and have been on it everyday.

Managed to sell the DH bike and got my new trail machine on the way. YT Jeffsy 27.5 CF Pro. Upgrading the fork to a 150 Pike, shock to a Fox X2 with Climb switch, swapping the cockpit to renthal carbon, and laving some mk3 Stans Flow's to I9 hubs. Bike is gonna rip!!

I installed some new brakes this weekend. I found some Sram Guide Ultimates on pink bike. Barely used calipers w brand new levers. 180/160 ceneterline rotors. These feel much better than my old Elixer CR's and are way easy to bleed with their updated ports.

How much would you guess that SS frame weighs? I would like to find a single speed specific frame. I really like the light carbon frame I'm using now but using a tensioner is a pain sometimes.

I'm a longtime Shimano fanboy, and when I got my Hightower they cam with Guide Ultimates. It was going to be the first thing I replaced, but after a couple rides, and an additional bleed on the rear brakes (the bleeding kit for these brakes is a VASSSSST improvement over their older stuff). Anyways long story short I like the feel of these brakes and I doubt Ill be replacing them anytime soon. So far so good.

Nice! Thanks for that feedback. I was originally going to go with the XT M8000 like we had talked about, but the more I read various brake reviews, the more I found people saying that the newer XT's were not what they used to be. Many talked about the bleed issues they had and the inconsistent feel of the levers. A lot the reviews I read talked about how the new Guide line of Sram brakes were a huge improvement over the older Avid brakes. So I figured I'd go that way try them out. They seem very nice so far. I'm looking forward to getting them out on the trail this weekend!

I’m not sure off the top of my head, I’ll look up the specs and let you know. It is steel.....I know Surly makes a couple SS capable frames.

I've heard the same thing regarding XT's but who knows. I have my doubts that they could have changed for the worse. Ultimates are definitely a step up from XT regardless of any change in quality. just our of curiosity what did you pay for the Ultimates?

Thanks, I'll check into those as well. My buddy rides a Form frame he got a few years back but I haven't been able to find anything on them anywhere.

I got them for $350 shipped. That included the rotors as well. The only thing I needed to buy was the new bleed kit. Seemed like a good deal to me. What do you think?

seems like a great deal, new they retail for 280 per wheel. and then you have to get rotors as well so add another 25-30$ per wheel again. I was curious in case I do end up selling mine. The rumor mill has been saying there's a 4 piston XTR brake in the works...

Just based on the reading I did over the past few weeks, the RSC's have all the same features as the Ultimates, they're just not as light. The Ultimates use a Carbon Lever and Titanium internals to lighten them up. I believe the calipers are the same S4's that all 2016+ Guides now use.
