Well I sure have waited long enough to get off my lazy a$$, and show some pictures of camping in Big Sur, CA. We stayed in an amazing campground - Pfeiffer State Park. The campground is located on Highway 1 south of Monterey, Carmel, etc. The drive over was amazing, if not a bit wild. Notice: This is not an offroad or trail picture compilation, but thought this would fit under the category.

The occasion for this trip happened to be my girl's 24th birthday. We casually gathered used camping gear over a month's time, and came out with some really nice gear for a great price.

The trusty Tacoma was all I expected, and more...great vehicle to tent camp out of.

Even though my point & shoot camera is outdated, here are a few pictures with captions:

We arrive 3 short hours later @ Pfeiffer State Park...

Excellent 3 person tent for under $100. 7' x 7' but seeing as I'm 6' 2" we could have used a slightly larger setup. At least it kept the rain off.

We decided to take a tour of the local light station to get some great views...parked @ the base.

I decided to take the Tacoma up Coast Ridge Road with a sign that read "Impassible During Rainy Conditions." ....yeah right...went back the next day with rain...left the camera @ tent site. It was slippery as hell, but fun.

    My favorite area. . .

I live about 35 minutes from Big Sur. Two weeks ago took the Tacoma on old hwy 1 which is 7 miles of dirt roads that takes you to some amazing views of the coast along with redwoods and runnings streams. Very serene/tranquil if that is what you are after? (No hillclimbs-mudbogs)

I plan on hitting Ventana Campground soon as well. -KC

    Pulling up @ home.

There are a few more pictures, but some didn't turn out and need editing. I'm getting a copy of Google's Picasa 3 from the brother-in-law soon...time to learn to edit.

Thanks for checkin' out our camping trip...some new pics might be added eventually. I'd totally recommend camping @ Pfeiffer if you're into the hiking/biking/ocean. :)

Lucky you! I'd love to live that close to the coast. Old hwy 1...isn' that Coast Ridge Road? I have some pics from up there for you to reference. The road meanders up in the hills with great views...apparently the land on either side is owned by a well-known wealthy rancher who likes to give out tickets to people to who step off the road for picnics...etc.

We passed Ventana Campground while exploring the area...looks really nice!
