Would y'all say this is a weaker version of ECT PWR under level 2?

No. ECT's biggest change over normal D or S modes is the throttle map. Less accellerator pedal travel =more throttle open position. THe shifting in ECT is different too but most noticeable in ECT is the throttle response.

Easy way to tell what version you have...

With engine off turn ignition to on. Press brake and shift to S. SSP will beep once indicating it's engaged. Wait ten seconds. If you hear one long beep, then either a single quick beep or a quick double beep or a quick triple beep, ( these beeps indicate which mode you're in) then you have V2. If no more beeps, you have V1.2.

I just installed the new chip tonight. Took maybe 10 mins to install and program to mode 1. This is quite possibly the perfect setting for me around town and on the freeway. V1.2 held 3rd too long for me around town when just cruising and 5th and 6th didn't engage untill later than I typically wanted. Now 3rd shifts exactly where I'd get fed up with it previously and bump it to 4th. 5th comes in slightly sooner and 6th by God finally comes in around 67 mph.

15 min drive I was thrilled. I'll play with the other modes but honestly if I need anything different than mode 1 I'll just do it manually.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't write a better review if I wanted to. I had the very same experience on the install yesterday and the drive to work this morning. The truck is prefect for me now around town. Well worth the $12!

I totally agree. Installed the new chip last week and program 1 feels perfect for daily driving. IMO, this is what “D” should have been.

The OPs further R&D is much appreciated! You rock!

There's only a v1 and a v2. If you got the v1 (only one program) right before the v2 (with three programs) was offered, you just need to go to the OP's website and order the updated chip for $12. Changing out the chip makes your v1 into a v2.

I think the confusion is that the vendor made some tweaks shortly after first offering the SSP v1 and offered to send an updated chip to those who wanted them. So some folks have changed their chips out a couple of times already since getting their SSP.

I'd be willing to let my V2 go for the right price.

Just don't use it as much anymore.

Finally got mine installed the other day (Order #1655) and have been running it in Mode 2 for a while. My $0.02 on it:

Took the advice of someone else and stuck it to the underside of the QI charge pad on my TRD Sport. The QI pad is essentially a box and the back of it is flat - with plenty of room. So it is completely hidden. If I ever need to switch it off when at the dealer, I can pop the front of the console up and flip the switch. Mode 2 is just about perfect for the kind of driving I like. Accelerates well and holds the gear to just about the correct point. Hunting around is gone. For $180, I certainly can't complain. I like that I have six options: (D, ECT, SSPMode 1, SSPMode 2, SSPMode 3 and manual select).

I've said this on another post, but my only 'wish/ enhancement idea' is that it would fit in the coin holder 'slot' to the left of the driver with a faceplate, a 'toyota looking' on/off switch, and a digital mode select switch. Would be the perfect spot for it!

Just buy it - it works!

For dealer visits if you're concerned, you don't have to pop the console off. Just unplug the OBDII connector. Then if they have to plug in, they can and won't find anything fishy. I pulled my OBDII plug and tucked it up behind some trim there. Had my truck in for a couple weeks ( granted for the diff service) so not sure if they read the ECU for any reason.

This is my plan for dealer visits. Coming from Subaru STi's the dealers were always looking for modifications to void warranty claims based on modifications. While the SSP couldn't void any warranty claims as it's currently implemented as I see it, I don't want to give the dealer any leverage should I have powertrain problems in the future.

If you're unhappy with how the truck shifts now, I'd highly recommend buying an SSP. I was on the fence for months and now that I have it, wish I had bought it a LOT sooner.

I see that you have the OV tune. What are your thoughts between the two? Why do you prefer the tune over SSP?
