MOAB White rim trail camp opening

Hey guys I know it’s been a while since I’ve been on and I no longer own a taco but my buddy and I will be down there the at the same time as the rock therapy trip.

We have a camp site and a backcountry overnight permit/reservation for hardscrabble A on the night of October 17. The permit is good for 3 vehicles and 6 people. We have space for 2 vehicles and 4 more people. I don’t want any money just good company.
(There is a $25 dollar pass you’ll have to get for park access to island in the sky.)

If you are interested in going please let me know. The trail is around 100 mile and will take two days. A stock taco can make it without issue.

I'd jump on this but I'll be at Universal studios Florida with the family (wishing I was at RT). I've done White Rim a few times and it is one of the most beautiful trails in Southern Utah. Good luck!

The White Rim is an awesome trip. I did it self supported on a MTB in 2013 and had a blast. Plan to go back in the next few years with my kids and tackle it in the Taco. The White Rim is a trip of a life time in my opinion.

Could I get more details? Haven't done WRT (been at the top of my list for a while), so don't know the layout/direction of travel/expectations.
I'm looking at rolling into Moab from Lockhart Trail, not real sure when but it might be the 17th.

 

Canyon Lands NP is an awesome place. Take lots of pictures and more importantly slowdown and take your time.

 

Agree. It's about 100 miles so being in a rush is silly. I prefer the Mineral Bottom entry. Most people enter from Shafer canyon. Just my preference. Less people on the top end and I usually take some time to go up Mineral Bottom canyon which is always deserted but has a few tough trail sections. Good luck guys!

I drive slow so I typically spend two nights on the trail. Usually enter the trail around sun up and drive to spot 1 stopping and hiking all day. Day two up early and drive to spot 2 (more stopping a lot and hiking along the way). Day three up early and drive out. About 25 - 40 miles per day easy pace.

You should do at least two days. You want to be able to take in a sunset, I'm a big fan of doing that Murphy Hogback. I've only ever done 3 day vehicle trips, 2 nights, due to either supporting riders or riding myself.

 

Keep in mind that the campsites on the White Rim are reserved ahead of time and are usually booked will in advance. You might get lucky on the day of and walk into the ranger station and score one like I did, but I wouldn't count on it. I recommend going online and reserving these as far out as you can.

 

We will enter at mineral bottom and exit at the visitor center. The campsite is at hard scrabble A, and about 1/4-1/3 into the trail. We’ll head out early afternoon to the campsite then spend the full day Wednesday taking in the trail and sites. The only plan is to have a good time with good people. It is back country so pack in and pack out everything. There’s no water or gas available. There are vault toilets along the trail but plan ahead and bring poo bags just in case.
Also:
No wood fires
Charcoal and gas is okay.

So far it’s me and my buddy in the jeep. Then one of the Canadian taco guys ( might have a passenger).

Okay, finally got a chance to review the route, as well as figure out what I'm doing to get there (I always make RT a long trip getting there).
I am going to be hard-pressed to make it by the date you have reserved. I'll free up my spot so others better situated can join you.

Hi all, could someone help with understanding of how much time need to slowly drive on white rim trail? I mean slow drive with a lot of stops on view points. I think two camping nights is good.

 

Yea, 2 nights is plenty.

A casual mt. bike trip is 3 nights.
