Meh. Although they did a great job putting it in, it seems like a waste of effort to me. The Wi-Fi only version seems pretty useless for a vehicle-only use. Plus the fact that it can't multitask makes it even more useless (no gps while your music is playing). Basically it's a $500 big screen iTunes music player that you can't take with you. Pass.

Although a great idea and it can probably be changed, the iPad 3G is not available until mid-April making this install useless, for anything web related, as soon as you drive the Tacoma away from the Wifi network in the shop...

They should have fabbed it up so that the ipad slips in and out. Like put on some kind system with tracks on the side. It would be like a detachable faceplate

^^ if you are referring to google maps, you are wrong. You can play the iPod and use google maps. This has given me an idea and I will prob sell my in dash for the 3G model... Hmmm I think I have an idea.

yes but can you listen to FM or XM radio at the same time than using the GPS?
Can you have your OBD system connected to show and/or record vehicle data while driving (and using GPS and using radio and using ...)?

the iPad is simply not a carputer, but, it's way cheaper and simple than a carputer so it can work well for some people.

I don't like the ipads either. I think it looks too out of place with how huge it is. Not to mention it's just asking to get stolen. Or cause a horrendous fiery crash when the driver is trying to browse youporn.com while driving.

What some of you don't realize is that this device would be in your car. What multitasking could you probably do while you are supposed to be operating a vehicle? I have probably listened to my radio for 1 whole minute total. Why would I listen to the same crap over and over, with ads, and horrible quality? My solution, the iPod function.

iPad is asking to get stolen? So is your truck, your cell phone, and everything else that could just be picked up. There are so many Negative Nancys here.

For only $629.99, that is much better than paying $1000 for a decent in-dash. You have to update the maps almost every year. Yes, it will cost you either $15 or $30/month, but that will save you from the map updates and give you the web right in front of you.
