You're the voice crying in the wilderness here. This is absolutely the easiest way to deal with gassing up from a jerry can.

This is awesome! I just picked up a few cans, so pardon my thread revival. Check this out, anyone looking for a filter screen, I found this stuff by accident at a craft store. Round here we have a store called Michael's, not sure if they're nationwide. It's super fine, 100% brass and you get a crap load of material for a few dollars.

i actually ripped the mesh out of my 3/4" Scepter spout , it was the cause of my back up and drip problem

Thread revive. Built this today. Pretty straightforward. Worked great except I didn't use an o-ring so I had to tighten it down and remove it with an adjustable wrench. Going to find an o-ring tomorrow.

I'm in CA so if I'm carrying a jerry can with gas, do I need to have a CARB legal spout in the car legally? Or is it only a ticket if your caught filling up without a carb spout.

I think it covers the sale of spouts and not use. I see lots of non-CARB compliant spouts being used. Haven't heard of anyone getting a ticket.

Thanks I went this route as it's the cheapest. Will test out when the hose arrives.

The Super Siphons are great to have around but after that post I quickly warmed up to the idea of making my own spout. The siphons stay stowed in the truck just in case.

One problem with the Siphons is they become difficult to use if the hose is not perfectly straight especially near the brass check valve/pump. I store them in a coil so they "remember" this state and it is very difficult to get the darn things straight again before you use them. If the hose is curved near the brass valve while submerged in your gas can -it can make it very difficult to get the last of the fuel out of the can. If it curls up near the bottom of the can and the valve sucks air breaking the suction then you most likely don't have enough fuel left in the can at that point to get the suction going again. When I am in the middle of EBFE I don't want to take that chance.

Even if you get the hose straight and manage to get all the fuel out of the can the siphon isn't as fast as a DIY spout.

    Thanks for the advice.

Looks like a diy spout is next on my list.

I found another section of a hose that slips over the super-siphon hose and is much stiffer - so it stays straighter.
Uncurl your super-siphon, feed the clear super-siphon hose through this larger diameter hose all the way to the brass fitting. Now you have a straight hose to insert into the fuel can and get almost every drop. This extra hose is approx 2 feet long.

I see 2 strikes against using pcv for a filler can. Pvc was deigned for water and fuel will eventually eat away at it, and it doesn’t hold up well in direct sunlight, either.

Granted a filler tube on a jerry can doesn’t spend a whole lot of time in contact with the fuel or in direct sunlight (if you keep it in a toolbox), so the risk factor is relatively low.

Bumping this up, made one myself after seeing the price of the original ones. There is someone selling these PVC ones on Amazon/ebay for about $30 too.

I ended up using a 1" PVC male nipple instead of brass. Over time I expect that the PVC would become brittle with contact to fuel but for something I will not use frequently (if at all lol) I am not concerned.
