I'll have to stick my head under there and try to take a picture.

But in my experience white lithium grease + age took care of it.

 

I followed @shakerhood 's advice and sprayed the crap out of my clutch area with disc brake grease. Mine came in a spray can so I just crawled under there and went to town on my clutch area. Entire thing is soaked in the blue grease, and I made sure to get in the nooks and crannys as well, and also pumped the clutch a few times to let the grease soak into the moving joints.

Drastically reduced squeak noise, now there's no squeak at all during cold days and I might get the occasional tiny squeak on extremely hot days when my truck has been baking in the sun. Figured I just need to spray some more on the hard to reach backside.

I still have the can so if the squeak comes back I'll just hit it again. Figured this will save me the time and pain of getting my clutch assembly replaced when the squeaking is most likely going to be present on all clutches Toyota puts out.

 

mine is a loose mess also. there does not appear to be adjustment for that. i think back in the day we called it a piece of shit or something. it has no place on a $40k truck.

 

i was heading down this route but when i looked in there and found everything loose and wonky, i skipped the brake grease, hoping the lithium i sprayed in there will wear off soon, in time for the dealer to not deny my complaint (which will be my very first since new, 18k miles).

 

I actually poked and prodded my clutch area and I found it to be generally pretty solid. Maybe it's cause I only have 7k miles on my truck?

 

if the pedal feeling is an accurate indicator, then mine has been loose and wonky since new. the sound came a few months later tho.

 

You might have been unlucky on build quality then.

 

It just peeves me when they put the cheapest, shittiest little parts on these vehicles. You pay something like 30-40 grand for a truck and the clutch pedal sounds like a haunted house door.

My blower motor used to sound like someone strangling a giant cricket. At least they came out with an improved motor. I had to spend $100 on one of those.

 

i generally don't complain much, being a mod-head. usually just want to upgrade everything as i get to it...

but there is no upgrade for this!

 

Beyond that, look at the major problems that peeps have with high end autos that cost more than two Tacos and then have spiraling depreciation on top of it.

We had a saab and a volvo. The saab was generally solid but had design problems. The volvo was not up to the old reputation of a solid build along with cheap design. We ended up getting $3,500 in a private sale for the saab at 11yrs old and $1,500 for the volvo on trade at 13yrs old. Go figure.

It blew my mind how much folks were selling used Foresters for (Wife's car), and then there's Tacos. Considering inflation, they hardly loose any value even with big miles on the odo. Plus, these are way easier on the wallet to maintain.

 

Yeah, I'd definitely rather have these little problems than big ones! That's precisely why I've given up on Ford et. al. and only drive Toyotas

 

Exactly. I'm coming off of a summer of solid wrenching on my Ducati and Ural. The Ural was my winter commuter but is getting kicked out. Good for puttering around but not up to commuter duty.

The Taco is only a handful of MPGs away from the Ural. Just not worth it.

And, I think I'm getting old . . .

 

Just ship the Ural to me. I won't complain...haha

I think there are bad runs of any manufacturer/model. Personally I had the worse luck with Toyota, while my 17 year old vehicles of other manufacturers have had minimal issues for even being high mileage and my old ford was fine, and my parents' gmc truck has been flawless.

I had to get rid of my taco for all the issues it had. I think the brand reliability perception is a little skewed. For most major vehicle manufacturers these days, most have no or minimal issues, while only some don't.

 

If you really want it gone, the dry joint is only accessible by pulling the pivot bolt. 2 dry white bushings in there. Pack the bushings and pivot full of grease. Of course, then you must deal with that damned spring and shitty bracket design.

Alternately, you might be able to drill a small hole in to the plastic lever where the pivot bolt goes through, then use a spray can with straw to inject it. because there is a bushing at each end, the center has clearance to allow the grease to flow in to.

 

I tried to post it here for sale, but I'm still too new. It was a great bike when running. I miss two trips this summer because it broke.

They make nice eye candy.

 

I would buy if I had money. but at the same time...modding...haha
