So I put a set of Bilstein 5100s on the Taco. Currently the height is set to the first level above stock and the truck sits perfectly level (she's an access cab pre-runner).

On the initial install I tried out two settings above stock and she was nose high by about an inch. With the front end being higher, my check engine light turned off and my P0420 code was no more.

The ride sucked and the bro lean was killing me so I reinstalled at the lower level and the P0420 code came back.

Curious as to what ya'lls thoughts are as to why the adjustment of height in the front end would cause the code to come and go. I've had the code for a year and haven't attempted to rectify it as other maintenance issues have been of a higher priority.

Lifting the truck was a higher priority than an check engine code?

P0420 code is usually a o2 sensor or catalytic converter.. Doesn't have anything to do with the lift.. A lot of times with that code the cel will come on and off and back on..

This code has been on for a solid year.

Having struts/shocks that aren't shot seems to be a priority for most commuters.

I understand the code has nothing to do with the lift.

The purpose of this thread is to solicit responses from someone with knowledge in exhaust/emissions to discuss why a change in angle, height, etc, of these systems can reset or trigger a fault code, which is exactly what happened.

Your thread title says the opposite... If you know the code has nothing to do with your setting on the 5100's, why say exactly that in your title?

P0420 dependent upon vehicle front end height

I can't comment on the code

But you should do a spindle lift

One system is exhaust and emissions. The other is suspension. The two do not function or interact with each other.

However, changing the height and angle (more likely to do with the angle is my thinking) of my vehicle causes the code to come on and off, as if there is a piece of honeycomb that has been loosened, but normally this is something that is audibly noticed.

How hard is this to understand? It is a problem that is repeatable. I can take these wheels off, repeat the process, and it will happen again as it has done.

Ignore the fact that it seems other factors influence the P0420, and troubleshoot the code and fix it.

You can still drive with blown struts; however, if you kill the engine then your not going anywhere.

This is the logical thing to do seeing as how this thread has devolved into a shit show of mental deficiency.

If you’d pay attention there is some good info in here, dude.

Neither effect the other. Coincidence. Only probable answer was the angle causing some of the honey comb to come in contact with the sensor.

What else are you looking for?!

Does the code change when you are on a hill or parked level... No? Then there won't be any change due to the lift. Best choice is to fix the code or have it diagnosed to know what is actually going on simply put.
