The SR thread, let's see them!

I took mine in for seeping, too. My dealer told me my VIN was on the list for a recall, though I never received formal notice from Toyota about it.

I didn't even think there was a recall for the SRs, I was really just looking to get the problem noted on file in case it became a problem down the road.

This was all months ago; in fact the service department (ToyotaCare/maintenance/whatever) ran the same VIN, both at that time and again weeks later, and told me "no active recalls".

I finally got the call from them last week saying parts were in, and now have an appointment to get it taken care of on Friday. I don't even remember what "the fix" is... just a new gasket..? We'll see...

 

ive been thinking about these. so the wiring wasnt to bad?
do you have any pictures of them in the day?

Just so you guys are aware as it is more prevalent on the SR model about the cluster gauges getting stuck or binding. It took the dealership 27 days to get a replacement cluster. If you notice your gauge needles moving in increments in either direction instead of a smooth flow, you have this issue.

Ugh, yeah I have that issue! Truck has been perfect otherwise. I may wait a while to make sure the problem has been corrected. Someone else on here had theirs replaced and the new one did the same thing.

 

Mine only acted up when it was a hot day out and the truck has been sitting.

 

Be sure get that checked boss,

Signs of a bad solder connection or joint deep somewhere, the heat makes it expand and you get issues.

I'm sure Mr "T" is figuring it all out.

 

Gauge cluster already replaced. So far no issues and now needles are smooth.

I too have this issue. I've taken a few videos, just because it is so intermittent. I really don't want to leave the truck with them for weeks, so I haven't taken it in yet.

 

If anyone has a chance before I do, ask if an upgrade to the SR5 gauge cluster is possible. That is one upgrade I would love to have.

 

I bought a SR5 because I like the digital speed odometer. That was the only reason I steeped up a model.

 

I'm going to assume not, because I haven't seen it mentioned yet, or atleast not as easy as swapping clusters.

 

I had to have manual transmission, unfortunately not in the SR5 trim anymore.

 

I really doubt Toyota will let you upgrade. They won't even let you keep old parts.

 

I have a bad left knee so I had to have a automatic.

 

I'm actually more interested if it's possible, not whether the stealership will do it or not.

These folks will clone/program your cluster. I should probably shoot them a message asking if their compatibility chart is for functional reasons, or just so it matches what the customer is sending them.

Could be a possibility it would just swap out. I know the SR5 gauge calculates the MPG, door open/close, etc and I don't think it would be a big leap to have the same functionality since those things are stored in the cluster itself. The only issue would be the mileage as it would need to be programmed in.

 

Don’t forget too though your MID controls are housed in the right side of the steering wheel on SR5 and above trims.

Honestly I’ll bet the cluster would work however getting through the meter options and such is going to be the harder part as you need to have those steering wheels controls for the right side of your wheel AND the wiring through the cable reel and such.

 

Ehh... I'd go Ultra Gauge which I have on my 2nd Gen. No need for fancy cluster.
