    Just the basics
The Snowpeak Hozuki lantern is nice because it is soft white and can dim. It also has a candle setting which uses movement to simulate a candle. They are pricey though.

Cool thread. Pretty much got my 4X4 to get me to more remote trailheads/basecamps for ultralight backpacking.

Here's a question for truck camping: Anybody make their own truck tent with tarps? I bought some camo tarps at Harbor Freight and some PVC glue. Hoping to make a tent that will fit nicely over my U.S. Racks. Thinking of taking off the hooks on a bunch of bungies and connecting them around the hem for a tight fit around the base.

Would love to see any pics for ideas and inspiration. Thanks!

Anyone have any experience using those Sea To Summit Wilderness Wipes for general hygene on extended camping trips?

Doing a remote Alaska fishing trip next year and exploring options.

Huge fan of StoS products. Cant say about that one in particular though. I use the much cheaper pack of baby wipes. If its good enough for dirty baby messes, its got to be good for a stinky backpacker...

I haven't seen this done specifically, but it'd be simple enough I would think. It wouldn't be a full on tent, so much as rain protection.

I've got the "baby wipe" portion covered.
Was wanting something to wash/wipe everything else down every other day or so. Most baby wipes seem too moist. Those StoS wipes seem more of a dry type wipe.

You'll go through a ton of them if you're using them for bathing. If that's the route you go, dry them out first and just moisten them as you need them. For full body wash, I use a different system:
    • Sea to Summit ultra-sil kitchen sink (free-standing when filled with water)
    • Biodegradable soap, like Dr. Bronner's
    • Lightload towel as a washcloth - 12x24 works fine
Fill bucket, add some soap, lather up with the towel and give yourself a whore bath. Use a second towel to dry off if needed, or air dry if you're not too cold. Use light soap and you won't really need to rinse. If you want to rinse, just dump the soapy water and fill with clean, then wipe down again with the towel. Light, compact, and no garbage to haul. Those towels are re-usable and really handy to have onhand for all sorts of things.

as @Seabass said, just dry them out. Add drop of soap and rehydrate.

I do have one of those SToS collapsible sinks we're using for dishes along the river. I could use that as a wash station as well. Good ideas.

I'm doing a diy fly-fishing float trip for 12 days.

A little inspiration for the next few weeks.

    Win a Cairn Box!

Should’ve done this earlier in the season, but better late than never. Lets get trails cleaned up before the snow gets here this season and covers up the garbage.

What: Over the next three weekends, when you are on the trails, hiking, biking, offroading, climbing, etc, pick up some trash that some dirtbag left behind. On Tuesday, October 24th I’ll randomly select two winners to receive a single Cairn Box, @getcairn with neat outdoor gear.

How: Post the picture on Instagram with the three following rules:
    1. Location
    2. The hashtag #Cleantrails2017
    3. Follow me on Instagram @ aero3685

Each user will receive a single entry but multiple cleanups/posts are always welcome!

When: Before Tuesday, October 24th 2017. I'll randomly select two winners and contact you through IG for shipping address.

Why: Because trails are much more enjoyable when you arent driving past plastic bottles, shotgun shells, and spare tires. And when its already clean, the problem children might think twice about leaving garbage behind next time. Garbage is one reason why trails get shut down for all users. Shout out to a great local small business Odin Designs @odindesigns and odindesigns.com who does contests like this to keep trails open...and inspired this.

Who: Anyone with an Instagram account and who lives in the US or Canada.

I’m currently on a bit of a road trip, and will keep pumping out awesome pictures along the journey! You can follow the trip on Expedition Portal as well:

So I scored a deal on a very lightly used Zpacks Duplex tent. I already have the Solplex and love it, but having that extra room would be a nice luxury. So a guy was selling his to raise funds, and I scored it for $400 instead of $600. He said it was the lightest weight blue fabric, but when it arrived it was the heavyweight spruce green stuff! It only adds 2 oz to the tent, so I was thrilled with the more durable fabric.

I set it up this weekend and it's in 100% perfect condition. The only sign that he used it for the 2 nights he said he did was that there was just a tiny bit of dust on the guy lines. I'm pretty stoked about having such a lightweight 2 person tent, and I'm taking it out this coming weekend for its first overnighter field test on the Arizona Trail passage 26. It's a full 7 ounces heavier than my Solplex, but I may end up wanting the extra space after all. Regardless, I have a super lightweight 2 person tent now :)

We started with the original pillow shaped lanterns which we’ve shared with friends and now use the cubes from LuminAid. We like them because they are well built and the company has a social purpose that we like. Son loves the color changing cubes for a comfort/night light and we usually hang a couple under the awning as gentle camp lights. Hang them from your ruck or toss them on the dash to recharge.

Too many people to quote but for camp chairs we’ve been satisfied with the ALPs Mountaineering “Camp Chair.” Very comfortable and rates for over 400lbs it’s rock solid when setup. Parent company is in Lee’s Summit, Missouri and I’ve been in their factory. We also like their recently discontinued “Retreat Table” which is being discounted at most retailers. Just grabbed a second to keep as a spare.

I use a 5gal bucket from Home Depot for camp trash and have a lid in case I need to make it a crapper. Tonight I saw a pricey Yeti bucket at REI. It is camp cool but would like to know if anyone has one of these and how the price is justified over a cheap bucket from HD/Lowes etc.

Very interesting. Is the lid bear proof? I’m sure the imitators will come and half or quarter the cost.

For some weird reason I dig the seafoam color. Just can't imagine parting with >$50 for a bucket and lid.
