Would love to. Was looking at rifles the other day and about half a dozen deer were in the yard this morning.

    I read about that..

    • It's BOY scouts
    • My son won't be involved.
    • Are they gonna let boys join Girl Scouts?
    • Glad I wasn't a part of that.

Yea I think those are pretty much the same area. we usually go when its really cold to avoid people. we went a while back when it was warm and people were everywhere sadly. but there are campsites all along the road a more established (vault toilets) campground at the mills river recreation area side of the road. we like it. plus theres good fly fishing right there if you walk away from the crowds.

That's one of the problems in the world today. Everyone thinks they are entitled to sooo much. You don't get a trophy for coming in last!

If they just merged the 2 sides it might be fine.. but guys need guy time, and girls need girl time.. so leave well enough alone. Snowflake needs to learn their place.

Not gonna lie, yesterday was a kick in the balls. My wife thinks this is disgusting. But here is my thesis, please read! :)

For the record, I am currently a Cub Scout Den Leader, Pack Trainer, and on our Packs Committee. We have 116 BOYS in the Pack. I am also an Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Training Chair, as well as on the Troop committee. We have appx 85 boys in the Troop. Z-man is awaiting his Scoutmaster Conference for Life. He has already completed EVERYTHING for Eagle, except the project. Tyler is a Bear Cub Scout in 3rd Grade. I administer quite a bit in my sphere of influence- to maximize the Scouting experience for my BOYS, as well as so many other BOYS. (this is why I don't go wheeling as much as I want. Both my boys are in sports too!)

I knew previous big changes- would not impact us at all, especially in my area. However, some chartered organizations left Scouting all together. Droves of "inclusive" BOYS did NOT enter into Scouting. Enrollment way down.

This news yesterday was NOT previously announced to any unit leaders. Will I pull my kids from Scouts? NO!!! Every unit is different. However, my strong preference is for coming of age BOYS to have a place where they can work with other BOYS. They are developing. Neither of my BOYS should be concerned about how a pubescent middle school aged girl is "feeling". o_O

A few points over the past 4-5 years:

    • Girl Scouts (GS) has NOTHING to do with Boy Scouts of America (BSA)
    • GS are likely pissed right now. This has potential to crush their program, maybe.
    • A Fortune 500 CEO on the board of directors for BSA had pressure from his board of directors to force a change in BSA.
    • That company's board claimed shareholder demands, under previous POTUS/Media rhetoric.
    • That CEO forced a change in BSA, threatening to withdraw funding.
    • Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates was president of BSA at the time.
    • The CEO that affected the change is now President of BSA.
    • Registration fees increased substantially, to make up lost revenue from lower enrollment. (proof this was POTUS/Media driven)
    • The "people" behind the Varsity Scouting program did not like the changes either.
    • They are starting their own program, withdrawing support for Varsity Scouts, and BSA
    • Registration fees went up again.
    • I feel yesterdays policy change was for BSA to recover lost enrollment, and revenue. BSA trying to remain relevant!

Some "on the ground" realities in my area:

    • We had a record recruitment year- 44 new BOYS! 5 new Dens! Typically only have 20 or so new BOYS- which is also huge!
    • During recruitment at a local elementary school- I had 8 parents ask if their 1st-2nd grade daughters could enroll in Cub Scouts.
    • Girl Scouts is failing, big time. They need to radically change their program.
    • Moms don't necessarily want their daughters to learn how to sew on a button anymore.
    • Dads of daughters want their girls to learn what the BSA provides.
    • Five years ago our Pack was #3 in the nation for Popcorn sales; this has eroded ever since.
    • Zero impact on previous BSA policy changes in our pack.
    • In a poll, Palmetto Council (Spartanburg/York/Lancaster Counties) voted 87% in favor of "traditional" BSA program.
    • As an adult leader, I voted in the poll as well.
    • Cub Scout program has been revamped- almost everything can be done "with your Den Leader, Pack or Family" Big change.
    • However, Boy Scouts have increased requirements, merit badges are much tougher with MORE requirements.
    • There are more Eagle required Merit badges, and more academic merit badges.
    • If you can't swim, a Scout will not get past Tenderfoot.
    • Females have always been allowed in Venture Scouts- age 14 and up. Females are also staff at Summer Camps.
    • Several foreign Scouting units are mixed boy/girl.
    • BSA policy changes appear to mirror the Military changes.
We'll see what happens; hopefully, requirements and standards stay the same! :oldglory:
