The uca is to fix alignment issues from the new lift. The lift will be pretty much the same between standard and extended travel c/o's. Uca's are recommended reguardless of which coilover you use.

 

Get cooler friends. It's what you make it. If you're bored, you're expecting others to make it fun for you. You or your group sucks.

There is some good benefit's to those tree huggers. There educating more people on protecting are rights to have access to areas and they bring lots of different people to the table that may have never took interest before.
There teaching them some basic skills that may save there ass out there. It sucks getting stuck behind them as you watch them learn. No way I could hang with those guys. I would shoot myself.

 

These were local TW meets... I was in the military for 10 years and just got out. So I moved a lot and had to try the group meet ups. For sure found some like minded friends and we did fun stuff. But we were all talking about the overland scene in general.

The whole reason people are attracted to it is they do see the 1 in 10,000 guy that does go all over the place and they wanna be him.

They all can’t be super awesome like you and your friends...

@MojaveMadman thanks for your service! You made a good point. Overland scene in general is pretty rotten. I refrain from wheeling with big groups or events or watching those youtube expeditions because it's saturated with idiots. But with everything, the individuals persons can be pretty cool at times.

 

What with all the hate?

Guys we are a MINORITY. Most ppl only use there rigs to get to and from work, head to the grocery, or taking the kids to dance class. Those of us who actually get out there and use our vehicles for things other then that, no matter how its used (trail riding, rock crawling, or huckfest) are all in the same boat. So you don't prefer the style of "wheeling" others do, big deal. Like the guy above said, "they are teaching people" , and I would guess have done more then most trying to keep the trails open.

You sir, are a good man and optimist! Ultimately I have no issue with anyone who off-roads. I think this conversation has gotten a little too serious and some of the sarcasm and joking has been lost for more serious conversation.

I think, well at least me, was only joking around. I think any group that dose help to keep trials open is doing the right thing.not saying im going to run out and join there groups. But what they do is a good thing.

 

Not serious at all. I just had something to say since overloading is the new long travel. They're both like my girlfriend. They make me poor just thinking about it

 

Back on track, anyone have experience with Cerakote on their shocks? I want to do mine with the local Cerakote dealer but don't know if re-honing the cylinder body is needed or what (I was told that when re-plating they need to be honed). I also need to call up aFe or Kartek to see if I can get the decals for my shocks and the SAW badges because OCD.

Not sure if my experience relates. But my day job is in hydraulic actuators and we build "shocks" for aircraft all day long, and hone barrels (shock bodies) all day long. As for honing of barrels we do all of that after the finishing steps. So they get coated, chromed, plated, blah blah blah then go for a final finish hone to ensure a perfect surface for seals to contact. Is it applicable to shocks, debatable. Is it overkill, maybe. But if you want the best performance and seal life, it's not a bad idea from my point of view...

Exactly why I am asking, a perfect surface is crucial to ensure a proper seal and long seal life. My understanding when I went to the Cerakote shop is that it is a sprayed application so technically masking it off should leave the surfaces unaffected but idk what goes into prep or curing the coating.

I know they do, a lot of the shock prep guys out in SoCal are sending out shocks for Cerakoting as well. I might give Kellan a shout, you know the best way to contact him? I know there are some gun guys on here who might have some knowledge since it is a gun coating. Texas doesn't have any knowledgeable shops and El Paso much less. I do all my own work and my truck is going to be my guinea pig with Cerakoting with these local guys before having the shocks on the trophy truck coated.
