How far away are those dealers from you? I can say from experience there are dealers near me that absolutely :censored:

It might be worth the effort to contact the successful ones for more advise, and take a trip to these dealers :turtleride:

that invoice is dated August 2016,I think Toyota corp has investigated and removed and examined some of these Diffs in question that supposely are howling and came to the conclusion there nothing mechanically wrong nor will the differential fail due to the noise and has ordered the dealers not to replace the differential should they have complaints of this anymore.

I could try a closer one to me. But I'm pretty sure once the FST comes out from regional the coffin has been sealed. Because essentially the whole process would begin again with corporate. If they'd even open a new claim number on it? Eventually the dealership would have a tech take a test drive, then refer to the same regional office or FST to see if a repair is recommended.

Check my VIN and they'd see the whole cam of worms in the vehicles service history report.

Who's driving $40k trucks? My ORLB 4X4 was 36.5k sticker.

You do realize the Tacoma is the bottom rung of the Toyota NA truck market right?

I agree 100% there has to be some type of internal gag order. Or halt on repairs. I went two dealerships, both within 30 mins of each other. The end result was the same. Denied.

I mean if Toyota is willing to state why its normal. That would help me understand. But they wont.. There is no TSB on these yet. Only TSB-0057-13 for the 2nd gens.

That's my guess, once they start failing due to whine you might have a different response from Toyota. As it is now, whine may be designated as a characteristic no matter how much you may not like it.

A noise could or could not be an indication or anything wrong. Good luck.

Why would Toyota pay to fix your truck based on the word of anyone other than an authorized dealer?

    Spoiler alert, they wouldn't.

from what I understand they were getting complaints from people about this and were replacing the diffs at a high cost and they investigated the diffs and found no mechanical malfunctions or any documented break downs due to the noise so they ended the free replacement, most people that had the diff replaced say that it is still howling with the new one.:notsure:

There is one guy from Canada who's diff exploded on him in 4x4 going up a drive way. Then they flew out a new differential and that one started making a howling sound and I think failed also? I talked him via PM. He said his truck is a paper weight as in Canada they have no lemon law recourse.

    From his PM with me

"First time not a sound. Just complete distruction of the ring and pinion. 2nd time after they installed new pod is was crap from the get go. Howl (like tire noise) at 55 that got progressively worse until you couldn't even hear a passenger talking in the back seat. After 3k got it checked and ring and pinion still somewhat intact but lots of fillings and chips.

Didn't have truck for 3.5 months. I hate that f$*king truck now but can't do anything about it. No lemon law."

I read this thread when it came out and im not buying the fact a faulty differential from the factory would result in the damage that is pictured here, some people make up stories to cover their own tracks for misuse or abusing their own trucks. also there isn't any track record of tacomas rears grenading to cause this type of damage.

I take no joy in your issues man, trust me. I've got my own issues. Just check the leaky diff thread for my pictures.

I would just take it to one of the independent shops and do what needs done. Sucks, but what else can you do? This howling has been an issue for years now and Toyota clearly has no desire or means to fix it.
I'm not even sure its an actual problem. Noisey, yes. But if the howling was directly correlating to failures, this board would be littered with posts about it.
