Unfortunately I’m still having trouble. It’s not very consistent. I can go through first second and third gear and AFR’s are good 12.3-12.8 and running strong and then five minutes later do it again and it has hesitation and AFRs go lean 14.5-15.5 I can’t figure out what’s causing this intermittent problem

What turbo you planning on for that beast. Me and my brother are planning a Xona Rotor XR 95/67 (95lb/min). One e85 we are plannin on breaking 700whp and thats pushing it at my altitude. You will need a monster turbo to hit that power on pump. Or some nitrous.

On pump I would run that for you power goal. If you plan on going smaller than go e85 for sure. I will be using nitrous just to spool the turbo. Auto trans and 5000+ rpm converter.

I wouldn’t worry about timing either way. I’m one of those old school dudes (even though I’m in my 20’s) who would rather up the boost for more power. From what I’ve read, it’s better to just increase the boost because even with no detonation, you’re still getting a huge spike in cylinder pressure where the spark is going off before TDC (advanced timing). That huge spike over a long period of time can do damage even if the damage isn’t caused by knock. Considering more ethanol will be completely vaporized before the spark goes off (compared to gas), it borders being unnecessary to advance the timing when you can just turn up the boost and have a more even pressure graph

Ohh I'm talking about after your at max boost for that turbo. On e85 you can easily push any turbo to 30-50psi. So there is no room for adding boost. I agree. More boost over timing to make the most power you can. But that's a pump gas thing. So say your running 50psi at 12* max timing. You can add 1* on the dyno. Once you get MBT you stop. Should be pretty safe still if not going crazy.

Also my info is from experience. Not from "what I read".

Ohh damn. That car won't move anywhere. Lol. Wrong wheel drive and 700whp don't mix.

It's going to be a ride. That's for sure. Nice set of drag radials, 60 mph rolls with a little brake boosting will own everything.

I was responding more to yota243 through your response since the topic at hand is whether or not he needs to adjust timing on *his* truck (I’m assuming) which will most definitely not be pushing 50 pounds of boost. Not downplaying your experience, but my understanding of physics and chemistry is good enough to read data and come out with a legitimate hypothesis or bias that matches personal experience. Also reading the data from other people’s “personal experience” is no different than getting the experience myself when facts are involved and provided.
    That’s why we have forums.

No problem. Thought it was towards me. I do agree with what you said though.

I love talking tuning and turbos. Probably my favorite things in life. All my knowledge was gained from forums also. I don't mean to affend. I've been out the turbo game for few years to build my 4runner and now wife's Tacoma. But me and brother are going in together to turn our 400whp beast into a 900whp drag car. So all my turbo enjoyment comes from these forums for the time being.
