On any given day I might be driving 3 or 4 different vehicles in the space of 16 hours .

I was just relating how I fix the issue of never being without a extra key at hand.

The more I think about it I really like the purse idea .

Key in your wallet is great if you always have your wallet.

I don't carry one when out fishing or any other variety of outdoor sports. I don't carry a purse either.

I'm grateful (again) that no chipped key nonsense is needed on my little base.

A hide a key in a relatively dry position (low rust risk) is the solution for me.

just a hint If you have 2 vehicles of the same make and they have double cut keys you can cut one side of the key for each vehicle to open door [not transponder] and use one key for both vehicles if one side doesn't work just turn it over.

Keep a door key in the fuse box and a ignition key inside the truck...has saved me like 5 times already

great idea if you can get to the fuse box with the hood closed and the door locked.

Extra key in the wallet has saved my butt several times. Also good for those times when you run outside at night to retrieve items in the truck and realize you have the wrong keys. Only time I remove it is when I fly and don't need it anyway. Not going to give the TSA any reason to rip apart my wallet looking for mystery metal.

Has anyone gotten and EXTERNAL UNLOCK BUTTON like this to work on a 1st gen? I do a lot of dirt bike riding in remote areas and like the idea of having this access for my truck. I ran the lock/unlock wiring (diff colors on 1st) as "EatSleepTacos" did on his gen2 but no luck.
Any help to my dilemma would be greatly appreciated.
    peace!

Just 31's on it. (Currently being built, lots to come)
Well the key in the wallet only works if you carry your wallet everywhere you go. Usually i leave mine in the truck( nothing in it worth stealing) So that idea is useless to me.

This threads over 2 yrs old...lol. but put a 1/4-20 bolt thru your spare and put it thru a hole on frame and use a wingnut on other side.

Inside your cross bar pad, unless you run Pro taper Bars, put your bike registration, medical card, $20 and a key to your truck...

You dont need that. Just put your key in your unlockable gas tank door for 15 years like the previous owner of my truck did.

Step 1: Drink a 6 pack, keep cans.
Step 2: Sober up if you are a light weight, if not, drink another 6 pack.
Step 3: Tear tab off one can.
Step 4: Shove key in can.
Step 5: Throw cans in bed.
Step 6: Close tail gate. If you don't have one, stop drinking and get your priorities straight.

I use the plastic hide a key. I’ve had it on 2 different trucks and it’s never moved.

Just reminded me of a scene in 'Gone in 60 Seconds' when someone found a hidden unlock switch under the car. Not a bad idea if you can keep it hidden.
