    Hi guys.
I am in Ontario Canada, and winter is comin soon.
My oil change will be done same time as my winter tires.
My Tacoma never had synthetic oil,but inwould like this because of our winter here.
Can this do any trouble in the comin months for my motor!
    Thanks for your experience !
    My regards
    Charly

Yes you will be fine. Don't listen to anyone that tells you that switching from dino to synthetic after xxxx miles will damage seals, gaskets etc. It's all a bunch of bull. This also goes for differentials, transfer cases etc.

Leaked like no tomorrow on me when I switched on a high mileage truck, 97,000.
Had to go back to regular 40w to stop leaking.
Won't damage gaskets, but gaskets are already damaged/dry. Read link below. I talked with a Mobil 1 guy years ago about this.

It's true that if the gaskets and seals are already worn out you might have leaks but it still won't hurt to try.

Sludge coming out is not the issue.

Problem is when you clean all the sludge out you now expose the seals that have not seen oil for a long time because sludge was in the way. Now you remove the sludge and expose this dry cracked gasket to slick synthetic. I've seen it happen, leak city. Synthetic oils have molecules which are all of uniform shape and size vs conventional which vary greatly. Going back to 40W stopped my leaking. Hence you can see where the problem is. Its an interesting scientific read.

IMO if that's the case and there is that much sludge than the engine is a time bomb and likely needs to be rebuilt or replaced anyway.

And if you can't stop the leaks if they start. That would suck.
Call Mobil 1 and chat with a chemist there, they are very informative.

Been using high-mileage synthetic on my 07 for years. Engine runs like a dream with 200,000+ km on it.

That being said, me and the previous owner have been running high-quality synthetic since 8,000km. So I cant comment on leaks

I've never had an issue switching too synthetic oil after high miles. If you've always changed your oil on time there shouldn't be a lot of sludge build up in your motor to remove. I live in NS and will be making the switch myself for this winter with 235,000 km

Again, that link you posted says nothing about seals or gaskets. The only issue it mentions is sludge. Are you talking about a different article than the one you posted?

Also, i can't believe I'm even participating in one of the 974,941,247 oil threads on this forum. I must be really bored.

You could always run a semisynthetic. I run synthetic in everything I own and always have especially in my two strokes. The majority of wear comes at start up especially in winter months. If it is a high mile motor they make oil with additives that swell seals to help leaking issues but once you switch to a high mile additive it's recommended to keep using it.

FYI: Bob the oil guy is a go to web site for everything oil related
