Did a full set (front, trans, t-case, fuel tank) of aluminum RCI skids. They’re outstanding!

    Bringing this thread back!

So I’m looking into doing a mix of steel and aluminum.. Initially i was going to do the front skid steel, and the trans aluminum. But seems like you guys loose a bit of clearance.

    How’s the aluminum holding up?

I had the aluminum ones on my 4runner (haven't bought them for the Tacoma yet) and they hold pretty well but I managed to crack one of the welds on Engineers Pass.

I ordered the full RCI aluminum skids and gas tank cover for my TRD OFFROAD. They are in my garage but still need to install them. I went went Aluminum because 1) better than the thin stock plate and rear plastic gas tank cover, 2) weight of Al over steel - I'm adding enough extra weight with all my gear and accessories and 3) I'm not rock crawling or extreme 4x4. I just want protection while overlanding since I like to explore and camp in remote areas. The Aluminum will provide protection but if I feel a hit I can correct my course versus pushing through. In general if you want rock crawling rock sliding protection go steel, if you want general protection for the occasional hit a slow speeds where you can change course or approach line then Aluminum.

Can a 3rd gen trd pro skid plate work just as good as those rci aluminum ones? They both have the same thickness but the trd pro plate covers the sides of the engine a little better and goes further up front.

The good news is that with a BFH or hydraulic press, that skid plate will live to fight another day. And still look good..

I recently put on the aluminum RCI skid and the RCI Lower control Arm covers. Aluminum should be fine for Overlanding. Previously I dropped off a few ledges and hit front. Glad to have this extra protection for front and LCA's.
I looked at CBI but significantly more expensive when adding in their high shipping cost.
Shockingly easy to install. didnt even have to lift truck.

Is there skid plate better than a trd pro version?

Ha. Nothing better. Improves gas mileage, raises HP and the ladies swoon.

Thats too much pressure for me though.
