I currently purchased a 2007 dbl cab with a 3" rough country lift. I want to replace it with a ome life and will purchase the ome with 885 coils already installed. The rough country uses a spacer that sits on top of the coil. I guess the coil has tension on it. How would you remove this from the truck to install the ome? Would you put a jack under the lower ball joint remove the bolt holding the lower shock and then lower the jack which lowers the ball joint. As you can tell I'm new at this but like working on my truck and am thinking this may be something I can do.

If the OME is already assembled with the 885’s, meaning you don’t need the top hats from your current setup, then the whole shock assembly will come out as one piece and you won’t have to worry about the tension on the coil. Remove the top three nuts and the lower bolt and wiggle it out as one piece. Would probably be easier to unbolt the UCA from the spindle for more room.

That is what I was hoping for. I saw a video where that was done but no spacer was on the one coming out in the video. Never seen a setup like I have and didn't want to take that bolt out and all hell break loose. It looks like there may be a nut that holds the top hat to the shock and keeps the coil compressed. Thanks Rick

Yea 4 nuts(maybe bolts with the spacer). The outer 3 hold the assembly to the truck. The center nut holds the tension of the spring. As Dan said if your new setup is already assembled then you don't have to touch the center nut at all.

Would you guys drop the two bolts that hold the lower ball joint to the spindle? It looks like removing this will give you a lot more room to work with the coil over.

Never had to but you can. Separating the spindle and uca always gives plenty of room. Just be mindful of your abs wires and brake lines. They will get yanked on with everything loose so bungee the spindle in such a way that there isn’t any tension on them.
