1FBDEA10-183C-414B-8C05-729BF7A5AAE3.jpg I sold my 3rd gen - 2016 TRD Sport and got myself a 2012 model. The 3.6L engine in the 3rd generation is under powered and despite the firmware update which Toyota promised to fix the issue, the auto transmission was constantly searching for the right gear. It soon became annoying for me.
    I love my 2nd gen TRD /PRO.

Watch it again, the 2nd gen beats the 3rd by at least 1-1/2 truck-lengths--looks like it might be an 1/8 mile run, IDK and they don't say...

The engines in the two generations couldn't be more different in terms of performance. The 4.0 L is a truck motor and as such it pulls hard off the bottom into mid range. The 3.5 L is a minivan/lexus motor which will give you a bit better economy and go really fast. I all depends what you want your truck to do well... pull hard or go fast?

I had a 4.0L, miss the torque in the low end but I don't mind. I think this engine is fine. I don't drive like an animal so it doesn't bother me. Better on gas. Also with a manual, you don't have the complaint of the constant shifting like everyone is talking about.

If it were longer than 660 feet (1/8 mile) 3rd Gen would start generating it's power in the upper end and kick out.
Which means 3rd Gen has better passing time being it catches up.

That's the video I was referring to. TFL is sometimes a little biased, but I think they are fair when it comes to their tests.

I'm glad to hear that, I got a biased feeling as well. It seems they love found on road dead. The test seem fair, and they put plushness high on the list (too high for me & truck owners).
