Our 2017 Forester 2.5 stick shift (it's the cheapest base model) consumes oil. It has about 9,400 miles currently on it. Subaru now puts a low oil level warning light on their cars due to this I assume.

It didn't start consuming oil until the first oil change, which was from the factory fill (viscosity unknown, assume it was a break-in oil or had some sort of additive) to 0W-20 at 4,000 miles. Don't know for sure if they used Subaru oil or bulk, she had it done at the dealer. Rate was about a quart every 2,000 miles.

I put in 5W-30 on the second change at 8,000. This is what I had for the Tacoma, the book recommends that weight for 2.0 turbos and says it's OK to use in non-turbos if this is all that is available (which technically was true, it's all I had). The consumption has gone down. The level change has been negligible in ~1,400 miles so I dunno what conclusion to draw. I might stick with 5W-30.

I literally did not know/realize it was Friday the 13th until I read this post. Despite doing invoicing yesterday and knowing it was the 12th and a Thursday, and having responded to numerous emails and such this morning with date stamps and knowing it was Friday. :anonymous:

Jerry has had it rough the last 8 ish years. I see him quite often when he is doing well. Health problems have kept him from working any real job for a long time now.

The Toyota brethren has been ok also. They were built in a partnership with Toyota, not sure if that changed quality standards or had different engineers. I've seen many with issues though.

BUT I will say I had fully intended on buying them. But since Raceline Wheels is a totally awesome company who loves to support women wheelers, they were gracious enough to be a part of one of the monthly giveaways through the Ladies Offroad Network. And I was the lucky one.

    Any ladies need to join!

As an added bonus, usually whatever company does the monthly giveaway extends a discount/deal to anyone. So during that month Raceline had a really awesome discount that anybody could have used (men and women, non members). So you all should check it out. http://www.ladiesoffroadnetwork.com

I saw a bunch of issues that came out early, but fixed with a software update. Some issue with the DI causing catastrophic failure.

But most of the other issues I saw were either just small stuff like rattles, condensation in the tailights, or major issues caused by tuning and wailing on it. I haven't really looked into who built/designed what specifically other than the obvious boxer engine = Subaru.
