    Crockpot thread is the shit.
I like browsing the smoker thread, but I lack the patience to babysit a smoker so I don't use the ideas on there very often, lol.

    Yeah...
That's WAY more than I'd spend on a grill. I buy them used for cheap and fix them up. I'm a cheap bastard like that :anonymous:

Still way more than I'd spend.
Not a bad investment if you don't already have a grill (or if you recently lost it in a fire), though. I've already got two, (one charcoal, one gas) and a 3rd would get me in trouble with she-who-must-be-obeyed.

So how much time does it take (I expect a range) to smoke things like burgers, steaks, and ribs? That Davy Crockett looks good to me, but I'm not blessed with a whole lot of free time.

I don't have the time to babysit a grill all day. I like the fact that I can set it and walk away, it'll cook itself.

Until the neighbors kid hack into it and sets it on thermonuclear or the wifi connection is lost.

I will still do burgers and steaks on a regular grill. Did some brats on @anonemoose smoker, and didn't take that long (the usual?). I do my ribs/roasts/brisket low and slow-typically 5-ish hours at 200-250.

    Pellet grill smoker. www.greenmountaingrills.com

Toss on a couple butts or a 16lb whole packer brisket at 10pm and go to bed. Check the hopper in the morning after a good night's sleep, spritz every so often through the day while getting other stuff done at home. Gives a good smoke flavor profile without clobbering all the other flavors.

(I don't care for the slap-you-in-the-face nothing-but-smoke taste I've had from some folks Q'. Fine if that's what they like, but not my preference.)

It's supplemental. You can still walk out in the rain or cold and press buttons on the unit if you prefer that. Me? I like being able to start the thing up from indoors.

What I think many folks miss is the biggest benefit of the wifi mode: programmed cooks. Since pellet grills produce more smoke at lower temperatures, I'll set up a "profile" to cook at 180F for three hours, then 190F for two hours, then 225 for eight hours, then 250F onward. Load it up, start the profile, go to bed.

I also have a "cool down" profile that sets the temperature to 150F for five minutes then shuts it off. So if I've got it going at 450F+ for burgers or something I'll start that cool-down profile when I bring the food in. Lets the grill cool down a little more evenly and no risk of forgetting.

I have no social media account beyond forums, but my wife does.

One of my old Army buddies posted some old Ass pics of me and tagged her in the photo.

About 6mo later she gets an IM, or what ever FB calls them, from a girl observed with... "wow [last name] you look good!!! Good for you on doing what makes you happy and doing this amazing transition. You are more brave than anyone I know... blah blah blah".

My wife just started laughing her ass off, and let the poor girl think I am a tranny.

Recently, one of our buddies died and we all flew out to Chicago for his services. That girl saw me and asked the photo poster who I was "he looks familiar but I can't place him".

The photo poster says "oh, that's [last name]".

"What?!??? I thought [last name] got a sex change, you tagged a woman in all those pics"

He laughs and says "nooo that's his wife he'd make a hideous woman."

On edit. Wtf is google home?
