100% true. I had mentioned that the type of tire plays a role in the amount of rubbing and trimming that would be involved.
It really depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go, that first post could have easily been twice as long going more in depth haha.

275/70/17 stock suspension on mine.. no rub, room to spare... dont forget that tire size, and my truck is stock..

 

Any chance you could share some pictures, show your wheels turned to give an idea of how much clearance there is between your tire and fender liner when turning?

 

yes i can...there would be even more clearance with the flaps off,, they arnt much smaller than 285/70's.. but from the corner to cab mount there is still a 1 1/2 in of clearance,, they are cooper at3's 6 ply. but then again it is a Pro,,lol.. got

No idea about fitment, but I think Nitto Trail Grappler M/T's are a great looking tire. Not too heavy, soft rubber walls, and Load C range weighing under 67lbs.
I'm really considering getting these when the time is right. Pricey though. Nearly $400 per tire.

I know the center bore is a bit larger so I'd have to get a centering ring, would that be the reason why the sites are registering it as not compatible? Seems like they should work...

I have a 2014 4wd Base SR5 4.0L

 

I don't have the exact same wheel but the same specs, I'm running XD Series 796 Revolver wheels 17"x 9" 4.5" back spacing -12mm offset on my truck. They fit, but they're aggressive. They will stick out past the fender and you will rub. I had to trim my fenders and do the CMC to clear my tires turning. It was pretty funny for awhile coming into parking spots and having people run out thinking I was hitting their car because he rubbing was so loud haha. This was at 2.5" lift.

17x9 -12mm offset 285/70-17 tires will bilstein 5100s at 2.5" and stock rear.

 

@eccracer104 How much of the CMC did you have to do? I dont mind cutting some fenders, but if it's a lot then I might go a different direction. do you think a different offset on those wheels would work? they have options for a 18mm offset with 5.74 backspace

lol sorry to overload you with questions, you're the most knowledgeable person I've come across, so any info helps!
I should add that I'm gonna run a OME lift kit with 887 springs in front that give me about 2.5-3" clearance and dakar leaf pack in the rear. I love the stance on yours, the wheels pop out just enough from the fender. Thats the look I'm going for

 

Here's the tough part, you want that look, you have to do the modification to make it work. You can skip the trimming and CMC, but you'll rub. There's always a trade off.
As for the wheel offset/backspacing you need to keep 4.5" back spacing to avoid the tire rubbing the UCA. The 5.75" BS option will NOT work without a wheel spacer which brings us back to 4.5" BS.
A narrower wheel will help reduce rubbing and trimming but won't give you the look you want because it won't stick out as far.

My vote is go for the look you want. You may have less trimming to do than I did because you'll be lifted higher, and some people can get away without the CMC all together. I'd rather prepare you for the worst and hope for the best.

Really though, is a little bit of cutting of plastic and relocating a plate of metal the deciding factor between exactly what you want and a compromise? It is intimidating now, but once you get in there you'll see it's not that bad. The inner fender liner cuts easily, and if you do need to cut some of the fender plastic take your time on it, make it clean so you're happy with the end results.
The guy who did my CMC had never done one before, I had no idea what it even looked like and just told him cut some metal and put some more metal in it's place further back. BAMF actually makes precut plates for the CMC, find a better welder (not a guy out of his garage like I had) and he will be able to weld it up to where it looks like factory. Down here in socal @Speed Freek does the CMC so cleanly you wouldn't even know it was done unless you know what to look for.

If the CMC is done properly you wont even know its there, last I checked I have done close to 100 of them, lol.

 

What do you usually charge for CMCs? Just tryin to get a ballpark of what I'm looking at.

I put ICON Alphas 17 X 8.5 BLK 6 X 5.5" 4.75" 0MM 106.1MM 2500 LBS and BFG KO2's 285/70/17 on my truck two weeks ago and dig the look but my truck needs to perform in the desert and mountains so I am having Jason @speedfreek do my CMC and pinch welds next week.
I have already done a little trimming and have heard a little liner rub so I need to trim.
I will update when done.

Thank you for this info! I finally bought new tires and upgraded the rims. I'm not one to offroad to extremes and have a budget to consider but had to represent my adventurous side with a more rugged look. Luckily the guy at America's Tire didn't argue with me cuz I'm a girl. ;-) The poll above doesn't have a spot for me, but I got the 265/65/R17 PTF Pathfinder AT's with MB Chaos 6 wheels (both the store's brands), stock height. I noticed pulling out of the driveway this morning they do rub a touch but I'm handy with a dremel and know people who weld, so will try the mod's this weekend. Once I do, I'll post pics.
