From the factory the 440/6 could be faster than the Hemi and were great motors, but the Hemi's were hugely detuned from the factory for insurance/maintenance/warranty purposes. The 440's offered great performance for shorter $$ than the Hemi, but a properly tuned Hemi will completely outperform a 440. Another factor for the 440's was that they were easier to drive day-to-day than the Hemi's were. The Hemi's tended to be pickier about their maintenance than the 440's, which basically as long as they had gas, spark, and air they were happy.

Edit-that's part of why the 440's lasted as long as they did; they were simple and cheap, but offered good power and torque, even when they were detuned for emissions regs. Dodge was still stuffing them into trucks and motor homes all the way through the 70's.

Fair enough. I figured it was something like that. The General Mayhem was a 440 out of a motorhome originally. Like I said though the cars look so much better in person. I typically liked my muscle cars in fastback form (Chevrolet, Cutlass, GTO) but man does the Charger look good in person. Admittedly I like the 70s style look with air shocks in back on those cars.

Wouldn't really have been any worse than the dual AFB's on a Hemi, but the initial setup (getting the barrels to open in series between shifts) apparently was a pain with the automatics. Supposedly the 6 packs were supposed to be set up so that you'd step on the gas and go from 2bbls to 4, then downshift, then open the last 2bbls so it was sucking through all 6. For simplicity's sake I think most of them were set up to run on 2 barrels, then jump to all six once the vacuum increased to a certain point.
With a 4 speed it was a non-issue, though, since you could open all 6 in any gear depending on where you had the throttle as long as you had enough vacuum.

    Edit- Mooooo-veeeee

Fastbacks are sharp too, especially the late 60's Mustangs.

FTFY. Although personally the trucks were all pretty good until the late 80's/early 90's. That's when they started making the switch to being more carlike and less capable.

I know this is like a 24hr delayed response but someone at my work has one. They picked it up used but they love it, and got a pretty good deal. I test drove a top of the line "platinum" tundra a few years ago, quilted leather dashboard and it feels like it just floats on the road.

Nope. Constitutional Carry FTW. I would still keep your MA license on you in case, I like to play things safe.

I want a mint International Harvester Scout II. There are loads of Broncos and Blazers around, but not many Scouts. IHs are tougher to find because they were often sold by farm equipment dealers and lived hard lives then eventually got retired to a field somewhere. And up here the bodies rusted pretty bad. I have seen a few in people's yards that look like they haven't moved in years but they are probably so far gone it would be impossible to do anything with them. An original one in nice condition is expensive.
