My thought too, I think some vehicles even have Grille Shutters that open and close to heat the engine up faster and keep temps up.

Funny thing about that is that all the Hollywood fans think electric is clean. They overlook the production process. Sometimes it is clean. Most times not so much.

And all the environmentalists want to crush or dismantle older cars to force new purchases (like Japan) in the name of efficiency and emissions. Totally overlooking the engineering studies demonstrating the impact of creating the new vehicle would keep the old car running another 10-15 years.

    And uptake due to cost.

Every other country in the world diesel is the low cost fuel; that's the prime reason for it's consumer acceptance.

In 3rd world countries with varying terrain, if your diesel isn't boosted you get left in the dust, because the minuscule engines are like the Jetta's of the 80's. Weak.

In many cases it is more about having the moral high ground, or ... illusory superiority in this case.

Black it out, put a different Toyota logo on it, and it will look fine

There is also something to be said about investing in new technologies. Electric vehicles may not be as clean/efficient as they should/could be right now, but the tech is still in its infancy. And there is no doubt that it is the future of transportation. Early adoption is rough, we must throw tons of money and research at it to make it more efficient and viable. Look how crude internal combustion used to be.

Super thread derail, but whatever, we can only talk so much about a grille.

I hope Toyota gives it a proper facelift at some point. I'm still not sold on the 3rd gen's big grille and "underbite" bumper.

-Remove grill, separate the insert from the trim and center piece, hit it with bug and tar remover (Bugs love the grill) and wash it off real good, then wipe it off with alcohol and start sprayin. I did 6 coats of plasti dip I believe.

Mostly miscellaneous electronic mods.... -2 spare Electrical fuse blocks hard wired to the battery with a key on relay. -Hard Wired Radar detector over rearview mirror. -2 Dual Whelen Avenger blue LED emergency lights, one on each side of the rearview mirror. -EP911 Blue LED Light Bar & Traffic Advisor, Rear Windows. -4 corner amber strobes in stock lights. -Hardwired RF Scanner with external speaker under center console. -Huskyliner front splash guards -Fireband 2 way radio in center console. -Herculiner painted on hitch and skid plate. -Switch to power one 12v socket when truck is off. -AntiDark LED strip under hood with switch. -Timbren Rubber Springs - Rear -MBRP Offroad Cat-Back with Resonator -Duratrac's -Provisor -Color matched hood bug shield
if that lower bumper isn't color matched it looks like something is seriously missing from the front end.

Okay, I've thought about it and now I'm pretty sure I will derp that chrome surround and make the whole thing black except maybe the emblem. Still debating that emblem.

That's my plan. I'm doing it all black and leaving the emblem chrome. I think a blacked out emblem makes it too dull.

Yep, I am leaning heavily toward that same plan. Leave the emblem as-is but black out the rest. Should look great.

I got my Can O' Derp all ready. Now if Toyota would just hurry up and make my new truck, I can start derping!

Compared to previous Toyota trucks it's massive. Enough that the hood is tough to see over on steep inclines offroad. I realize some of it was to save pedestrians in collisions but.. ehhh.

Same. The current fascia looks like an afterthought, or simply rushed.

I don't even like it colour matched, it's such a departure from Toyota's conservative/clean/timeless style. On an unrelated note, the 4runner looks unfinished with the big empty rectangle in the front bumper.
