Didnt use any of the grills, speakers are behind door panels so you don't need to use the grills at all

damn! Changed my tweeters, what a difference! saving for kickers next. i literally know nothing of cars and this website makes it so easy. One thing i will say is when you're placing the pillar covers back in make sure you line up the base clip\insert otherwise you'll have a small gap between the pillar cover and the tweeter cover. i didn't know it was there at first and had to take them off again.

I left the grills off the front and rear speakers. Your door panel IS the grill. Enjoy!

Kinda figured that but wanted to double ck before I begin. Speaker and mounts assembled ready to tackle rear door. Reading all these posts has made this much simpler. Again thx for this thread. Im going to do one and see how the sound difference from the L/R rear is.

    Bam!

Tweeters came in first (like some others here, damn your slow shipping, crutchfield), I couldn't wait, so went at it. Was scared at first, but turned out to be super easy (once I finally found my 10 mm socket).

These things made an immediate difference. I can actually hear vocals. Hallelujah!

    Amateur tips:
    - I tried to do this w/o removing A-pillar. Bad call. Couldn't get the panel back in because there's a tab that hooks into the pillar. Ended up scratching the foam on my tweeter to hell. Turns out removing the pillars was super easy. Live and learn.
    - Removing A-pillar didn't require taking off the weather stripping. It just slips right back in.
    - Don't do this in the dark, you'll just make life harder on yourself (ask me how I know).

Thanks OP for this rec! Really looking forward to the rest of the speakers coming in.

OK, folks I now have a rattle coming from either my A pillar or around the tweeters. Has anyone else had this? If so, what was the culprit and any suggestions?

I would remove a-pillar cover and tweeter grill, make sure both bolts are tight in new tweeter .. then make sure grill is snapped back in place correctly and a-pillar cover is back on correctly. I have heard a couple instances where a-pillar cover was hitting tweeter grill and causing a rattle noise

Make sure the cable is not hanging loosely. I had that problem recently and that was the culprit

Installed Kicker tweeters and they made a really great improvement in the sound of the stereo in my truck. I have also purchased the Kicker CS 6x9's and 6.75 door speakers. I will install speakers in a few days and if they sound near as good as the Kicker tweeters this will be a nice sounding system. Let you all know how it turns out, very optimistic from all the reviews on this thread.

Thanks @bshammer0 for all the info.

It will be a nice sounding system, it's the best mod i have done on my Tacoma for the money spent. The 6 Kicker speakers make a huge improvement over stock

Make sure the base of the pillar with the inserts line up to the slots in the dash!

I actually paid for this one guys ... I kno I kno. It was 150 ish for the install. So like 630 after tax with the sub (which is self amplified) and yes the bass is great. It sounds awesome and it’s only a 8 inch!

Installed the left one. The sound is clearer and more separated but not louder. One install tip: If when re-installing the panel and cant find one of the Philip screws, ck the magnet on the speaker you just installed.

Get the front 6x9's in and you will notice a big difference (especially when you have the volume at 35 on up )
