Got to take our victories when we can at this point.

 

Supposed to be sunny and mid 70s here today. Need to mow and weedwack, and clean the house. That is basically how I spend every Saturday.

 

Went out this morning and sat for a couple hours in my ladder stand on watershed ground.
First time out this year as It's been too hot for the last month.
No deer seen. Only one coyote. Warm with showers here and the humidity kicked in again.
Felt good getting back out.

 

This tie rod issue has been KICKING my ass.

The spacers Camburg sent were for their second version of the LT kit. The kit I have is the first version. Different geometry, version 1 needed longer spacers. The version 2 are only 2.75" long. To get my truck to track straight, my steering wheel is turned 90 degrees to the left.

I tried locating longer spacers from other manufacturers... Can't supply parts due to liability reasons. Camburg says their machine isn't set up to make the longer spacers (which is bullshit if you ask me. It's a simple adjustment on the machine)

Tried to find info on longer inner tie rods. Called Moog and every custom off road fab shop I could find. The fab shops recommended I pay $800+ for heim tie rods. Moog... Can't supply info due to liability reasons.

I had a friend recommend that I use universal inner tie rods and make my own rods with threaded rod. Can't find universal inners that will work...

FINALLY I had a eureka moment. Instead of trying to find inner tie rods that would work, where I have to worry about the rack end threading and the rod threading matching up, why not get longer OUTER tie rods!?

So I hop on the old internet machine and pull up the specs for the FJ outer tie rod ends.. Length: 4.9", thread M15-1.5, ball joint stud taper 0.602"-0.671"

Then I found that a 2004-2007 Highlander tie rod has the same thread: M15-1.5, the length is 6.75", and the ball joint stud taper is 0.531"-0.633".

SO if I'm doing my math correctly:
-I gained 1.85" in length on each side with the extended tie rod ends.
-Adding in the 2.75" spacers, that brings me to 4.6" on each side.
-Generally, the tie rod inners have a good amount of threading, so I can compensate for the extended length. Option 2 is to cut the tie rod ends to length.
-The slightly smaller ball joint taper should fit the knuckle just fine.

I know we recently had a discussion about taxes. Just got a notice from my city that they're no longer taxing vehicles 2002 or older (I'm guessing anything over 15 years old). Also, now instead of deducting only $500 from the NADA value, they're now deducting $1000 after a 5% deduction.

Finally something that changes for the positive around here.

 

You pay way too much for a truck of it's age. I'll let you know what mine is when it comes in

 

I know. You probably pay nearly half of what I do. It's just nice to see the amount taxed going down instead of up in my city.
