Long Travel BS Thread

Anyone know what the specifics r for getting this top hat bolt out on these fox shocks. Tried lube and the typical Allen key that fit it but it won’t move.

 

Those are lock tighted in. Make sure you have a proper fitting Allan wrench and I used a little heat.

Whatever you do, don't force it - those'll strip in an instant - probably already your prerogative since you're on here asking for advice though.

I have the correct Allen but it’s still tight as fuck

 

torch the threaded side for 15-20 seconds. You'll be surprised how easily it'll come out after a little heat

 

They're able to generate more torque w/o stripping based on the design - more like impact sockets.

 

Need to find one of those as well, that's awesome you came up on that for that cheap

Get it red hot and that sucker'll come out.

 

Heat plus impact. Or use one of these with a hammer

 

Sounds like you need to put a piece of pipe on that allen for more leverage. Or just use a 1/2" impact if you have that available to you.

 

I see the silver Allen head is bigger on the outside. Do you have the Torx bit for the rusty inside bit? I'd try the Torx and an impact driver

also in addition to the heat, smack the threaded end of the bolt with a punch and hammer.

 

Works great. Best part is the stress relief it provides. You get to beat the shit out of the seized hardware WHILE breaking is loose.
